I have nothing against off-topic discutions and I find this one funny, but I'm very surprised that nobody came to tell us that we're off-topic.

I'd be overjoyed if we get all the final evolutions to the starters, though I'm not betting on it.

I guess I'd also like to see someone from the Flabébé line (I'm fine with anyone). Sylveon's a Pokemon that got a good amount of promotion, so I hope we'll see that fairy Eeveelution. And Vivillon would be pretty cool, especially if we get different colour patterns.

I'm pretty sure that if we had a 3 page discussion about the Persona games, it would be allowed. The one real actual rule is to not start a flame war, other than the usual, no NSFW stuff, don't double post, etc...

I find Weedle to be far cuter than Espurr. Though that homage is uncanny. Is the mother Meowstic sacrificing for the great Helix Fossil?

Well, earlier today I talked to a Nintendo tech support rep for my Wii U's GamePad connectivity issues and they're telling me my best offer is that I have to send in my Wii U, its GamePad, and a $175 fee. They almost refused to repair it when I told them I damaged one of the GamePad's battery cover with a power drill (I messed up a screw when trying to replace the battery).

Also, just came back from that tournament. Even though this was my first Melee & Project M tournaments and lost in both of them, I actually feel like I have been getting better at competitions (I won for the first time even though it was in the loser brackets).

The main reason I switch to a 3DS was due to my DS Lite's D-pad breaking (do you know how many games need it? Too much).
But you know, it's funny. If it never had happened. I'd probably never have gotten into Smash.

Also, just came back from that tournament. Even though this was my first Melee & Project M tournaments and lost in both of them, I actually feel like I have been getting better at competitions (I won for the first time even though it was in the loser brackets).

Does anybody else think Dixie is more deserving than King K. Rool? I always thought she was because she appears as a playable character very often and frequently appears alongside Donkey and Diddy. So I would certainly go as far to say she's next in line.

I know King K. Rool is unique and a villain, but that does not automatically make him more important. If anything I think being a protagonist makes you more important. I should also note that Dixie appears in a lot of spin off titles too.

I know King K. Rool is unique and a villain, but that does not automatically make him more important. If anything I think being a protagonist makes you more important. I should also note that Dixie appears in a lot of spin off titles too.

On the merits of series prominence/playable appearances/etc. (both in mainstream and spin-off DK titles), Dixie certainly has the advantage over K Rool (along with recency, given Tropical Freeze). As you also note, she's a recurring protagonist/playable character, and is part of the core Kong gang.

If K Rool has any advantages, it's his importance to the DK series as the most recurring boss (and canon archenemy to the Kongs), the higher unique moveset potential than Dixie, and popular demand (I don't have numbers off hand, but he's apparently a highly requested character; perhaps others who have the hard facts at hand could share them for reference).

They're both greatly deserving in their own respects, and if one is more deserving than the other, I suspect that it would only be by a ponytail's width.

Currently, I suspect that Dixie is more probable, but I'm rooting for K Rool - especially since Dixie has returned to mainstream (i.e. non-spin-off) prominence via TF, whereas K Rool continues to wallow in unused obscurity.

Eh, I wouldn't say commonly, just recently. Before Returns, he was the main villain for the entire series excluding Jungle Beat.

As for his chances in comparison to Dixie, I think Sehnsucht said it best as both have their merits and really are on rather even ground (though Dixie may have a slight edge currently). Whichever is chosen, they brought good reasons to be in the game and thus would be worthwhile additions in their own right.

Well, not necessarily. It depends on what you mean by commonly.

He was the final boss (and main antagonist) in DKC1, DKC2, DKC3, and DK64. Those four games are part of the main DK series. You also have the many spin-offs***; K Rool is playable in two (Barrel Blast and Mario Sluggers), and appears as the main antagonist in King of Swing and Jungle Climber.

The current Retro series (Returns) marks a sort of revival of the prime DK franchises, after years of spin-offs (Konga, Barrel Blast, Jungle Climber, King of Swing, etc.). K Rool has not appeared in the two Retro games yet; we had Tiki Tong in DKCR, and Lord Fredrik in Tropical Freeze. So in reality, K Rool has only been replaced twice.

In unrelated trivia, in the K Rool thread, many have forward the notion that Fredrik (i.e. the Ice Walrus Viking) is essentially a K Rool expy, given that Fredrik's moves in his boss fight are highly reminiscent of K Rool's behaviour in past DKC titles. Also, Retro made a sly reference to K Rool in Tropical Freeze (in one of the level backgrounds). While intriguing, neither of these things don't do anything bolster K Rool's Smash prospects.

So, we have six central DK titles, in which K Rool appears 4/6 (or 66% of the time), while Dixie appears 3/6 (DKC2, DKC3, Tropical Freeze). For spin-offs, K Rool appears in 4/10 of them, and Dixie 9/10 (she is absent from Donkey Konga 1). I imagine that the central DK titles have more innate significance than the spin-offs, but Dixie has far more presence in the spin-offs, which balances things out (and possibly tips them in her favour to a degree).

Anyway, take what you will from all this. I hope you found this informative; I checked the DK wiki just to double-check my information.

***There is Konga 1, 2, and 3, Jungle Climber, King of Swing, Barrel Blast, Diddy Kong Racing DS, Super Mario Baseball and Sluggers, and Mario Hoops 3-on-3. K Rool and Dixie appear either as playable characters or make cameos (in which K Rool appears as the antagonist for two of the games).

Dixie will most likely be revealed sooner or later. The recent success of the Tropical Freeze and the overall return of Dixie as a playable character gives her many high hopes. And as much I would love to see K. Rool in this game, this is not looking good for him. Not returning in 2 main DKC games. No real inclusion of him in spin-off titles like Mario kart or any of the sports games. Plus hes more of a Rare creation so Nintendo is probably want to distance themselves from him and go with there own ideas. I still got him as a long shot but dont get your hopes up type of inclusion. But hey will see. But I know Dixie gotta be in it. Plus more smash ladies never hurts.
