The Rayman leak was "leaked" via a random user on Youtube. It had problems.
Heck, even the ESRB leak had problems, being from a random 4chan user. And so doubting both of them was fine. That's not the case at all with the Royu leak.
It's hard to even say if it's a "leak" or not in the same sense as Rayman anyway since unused content is different from unreleased content. The former can actually be confirmed by various people and is faked much less.

Well if it is in the game but unused, it's still in the game. You can't argue with that fact.

The forbidden 7 are mostly cut characters from Melee (Doc, Roy, Mewtwo etc) and some new characters like Dixie Kong or Toon Zelda. They were cut for unknown reasons.

If games have unused content, that means games have content which even their own maker don't speak of (in most cases). That means it's a fact that game companies aren't the only one spouting factual information about their games.
And what difference does it really make between a Nintendo employee saying something unused in the game and a reliable hacker saying so? They both have a reputation to withhold and both have access to the game's files, so they're both equally(or close) credible if they're saying something regarding the files of the game.

Gematsu isn't "disproven", at best it's just outdated. Given the characters that weren't in as predicted by Gematsu were confirmed to be planned for the game anyway.
I'll also point out that the main person behind Gematsu(the original leaker who tipped off the whole thing to Sal), was anonymous. Again, not comparable to the Royu thing.

And regarding your edit...yes, it's easy, extremely easy to fake that. But if we were to consider that possibility...that means someone on Reddit said Roy and Ryu was in but was actually BS'ing, but then the well-known hackers/dataminers were all in on a giant conspiracy(or rather, prank) to then support this claim which they knew was unfounded? Sorry, but if you're going to accept such a ludicrous proposition then you might as well not listen to anything even Nintendo says because then you'd have to consider even Nintendo would/could be BS'ing when they open their mouths by the same standards.

And if it was really fake...why has no other actual hacker/dataminer called it out? Unless you assume that literally every single one were in on the whole thing, lol.

Well, that wasn't so much DISPROVEN as it was OUTDATED. Like, back when Sakurai was considering Chrom and Robin hadn't come into play yet, before the alt costumes became characters (Dark Pit, Doc, and Lucina), and when Greninja wasn't finalized for Pokemon yet, which Sakurai has said was the case. And I THINK there was Rhythm Heaven stuff found in data, but I'm not too sure on that.

Gematsu was probably just something from primarily the planning phases, so it was outdated because of stuff like Robin replacing Chrom and Greninja getting finalized and such.

Well Phoenix could also be considered as a Nintendo character when you think about it. His games were mainly on Nintendo handhelds, and the only time he wasn't on it was for the PC version of the first three games.

Maybe Sega wanted to avoid creating fan followings and fan character waves from Sonic's alts.

I have the games already(on DS) and finished the first two(third game crashed on me during the second case). They're great though I'm pretty intrigued by this PC version given the game seems to improve greatly on a larger screen(as I've seen with the Wiiware version).
