Personally, I both agree and disagree. I do like Paper Mario ticker Star's music, but it really doesn't fit Paper Mario that well.
So yeah, back to the old style would be nice.
Nintendo has really been on a jazz high for the Mario series recently, haven't they?
Sticker Star, 3D World, and Mario Kart 8.
.....partially.

If you were on talking on sm3dworld and ESPECIALLY mk8....the jazz style is just awesome. There's an even balance of the instruments and they all lead to something so you get carried easilly.

SS however is just neither of these imo. I listened the ripped wav, the best quality you could get.....there's just an abuse of the trumpets....in a very bad way because it just never managed to fit imo. And I almost never got carried in most music (if not all) which made me question if it would be the equivalent or better if there was silence.

HOWEVER, this is interestingly NOT the case with the Paper Mario medley in ssb4. It's actually IMPROVED so much that I heavilly question why the SS ost isn't that good in the first place. Seriously, the theme in ssb4, it's good, way better than the original one.

The problem with Paper Mario is both versions lacks something the series lost with SS, simplicity. The simplicity of the sounds is a lot more present in first 3 games, yes, you have instruments, but the sounds themselves are so simple that the arrangement of them is just so easy to get in your head. I mean I was talking how the mkwii music in ssb4 got into my head.....you know why, the sounds are so damm simple to memorise them.

Now, saying this, this shows that the Rogeuport segment in ssb4 music felt a bit counterintuitive, but the brief part of the sounds still being there.....it did the job, I jsut question the use of the background noises.
Yeah, I left SPM off because I don't feel like it's RPG-ey enough. I'm playing through Dream Team bros now for the third time, and I like it - the battles are a big improvement, but I feel like it just gets repetitive, the M&L humour is lost, and the plot/script is very stagnant...

I'll have to give Partners in Time another go though. I don't know if I gave it a fair place on my list. I haven't played it in a veeeery long time.
I felt the exact same about superstar saga....and I honestly felt the same with the demo of dream team. The way I see is Paper Mario is JUST enough simple yet, packed with a lot of stuff while M&L is so simple it just appears to have been limited by it. I just don't feel impacted much when i played superstar saga.....

paper souls?

Top Kek

I remember when MLP did a parody of Paper Mario.

Also, when's Splatoon?
....I wonder why I will ask this question but.....

What parody exactly?

I seriously think I will regret to ask that.....

Btw, yes, spm can be considered a part of rpg, but also a part of platformer. They just both are tied together, but it is not solely one of them. SS.....that is honestly debatable.....

Well the thing with DT and SS are that you're only playing as Mario and Luigi. So there's no extra element to add. I don't think that either game needs the extra element, but regardless, it's not there.

Partner in Time and Bowser's Inside Story, however, both have that added extra element to them (Babies and Bowser)
Which make use of the X and Y buttons to make things more complex.

Out of curiosity, how far into Superstar Saga did you play?

I beat it.....it was either disappointing or it's like I never played the game. It is mostly the later because at the end of the day....I never felt this game bring me anything special.....which I was expecting from a mario rpg series....I mean, smrpg did it....

But the L and R is the disappointement part....geez It became frustration.

Even though that point SEEMS (not even sure if it's good even) that it was improved after, but the part where I don't feel anything special....that hasn't changed considering the demo of dream team.

It's just too simple. The humor for example....it just isn't funny to me because the joke are just....too easy. The Paper Mario series gets in a lot of places and jumps around with 4th wall, silly, ridiculous and even satire (spm 3-4, best satire ever).

M&L., if it's done, it's not noticeable enough for me.

I absolutely LOVE SuperStar Saga's humour. I don't know about Dream Team, but SuperStar Saga is on a whole new level compared to the other titles. TTYD comes very close though.

Compromis: go Xbox One. You get the best of both worlds: no future from the Wii U and no games from the PS4.
Xbox One doesn't really interest me and I recently fell in love with From Software (which I should have done when I played Dark Souls months ago in the first place) and PS4 got some good games coming (Uncharted 4 for example), not to mention the oh-so-wonderful BLOODBORNE.
Also, WiiU got MK8, Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, Wooly World (:4yoshi:) and ZombiU, not to mention 3D World.

Should I make an account? Or should I wait 'till I actually get the game?

The Humor in M&L is varied depending on which game you play.
Most humor in M&L, if I could describe it, comes from either screwing someone over or being absolutely absurd.

M&L humor tends to center around Luigi, and his various antics/being the Butt Monkey.
In SS, a running gag is that no one ever gets Luigi's name right, for example.

Otherwise, most humor will come from the various colorful characters that you meet throughout the games, which is why the humor differs between each game, due to the very different settings of each.

I'm sure I've asked this before, but what exactly does the Dream Team demo cover?

Psst, it was a joke. I was referring to criticism I often read about the Wii U and PS4. Wii U is pretty good and PS4 looks pretty good.

you didn't.

It's kinda fragmented. I think the demo is mostly to show the mechanics part. One is dram world and one is real world and there's bosses for each of them. Of course, most of the demo is tutorial, but that is kinda to be expected.

But I just wasn't impressed by anything.....music graphics, anything. The combat just almost felt the same as SS.....which is not really good in my eyes.

To be fair, you can't judge the entire game out of just the demo.
The best way to figure out if you like a game is to play the full game.

The problem comes if you don't like the game.
That's why Demos need to show you what you are going to get from the game.
Extra Credits has a good video about it.

I did for SS, being that disappointed is a good justification to NOT get the other game unless the demo is interesting in the very least.

Not only it wasn't, but I felt it was pretty much too similar to why I was disapointed when i beat SS.

Therefore, I have no reason to buy DT....

And unless I just happen to have a cartbridge in my hand, I shouldn't buy something I know has a very high chance to not be worth.

There's Fawful, there's the absurdly hilarious naming scheme, Luigi dressing up as Peach and getting caught (my favourite scene in the game), there's Bros. Moves, there's Popple (see?), Birdo getting disguised as Peach, and what not.

The only reason Bowser's Inside Story is ahead is because, playing as Bowser never felt so awesome. Fawful has his share there too, but he's more serious.

I just don't see enough funny part into these....like, nothing.

It's so weird to explain, but it's like the setup is too simplistic to get anything from it. Maybe it's because it's too explicitly made in the text and whatnot, but basically for me:

Any first 3 games of the Paper Mario series humor >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SS humor.

The margin isn't even comprable for me. It's like, the best I think it did was just me thinking it was a bit cute, but after, I felt they tried WAY too much....like just way too much.....

And popple, I honestly found him so pointless.....battles and dialogues, i mean I didn't get why he was in the game.....

This is a man who is liking too much one series and can't appreciate any other type of humor other than the one he likes.
But, if you don't mind, could you please tell us why you don't like the Mario & Luigi games other than the humor ? Because you're just criticizing that and you barely talk about the gameplay. Because right now, your judgment on the series feels sadly wrong.

Slapstick and surreal/absurd humour isn't you cup of tea then, I suppose. *shrug*

For me, it's SSS humour >> TTYD humour > All else.

Boy, it was always so priceless failing the Chopper Bros. attack.
For info, if you fail the first button prompt, the head of Mario's hammer falls and he whacks Luigi with the handle, resulting on him doing tiny hops before colliding with the enemy and dealing little damage.
I think the same also happens with Knockback Bros.
Not to mention setting poor Luigi on fire after failing the Fire Bros. attack.
Can someone confirm this? It's been a pretty long wile since I played this game.

I'll always remember the "Luigi in a dress" moment. A big and nice reference to the comics.

It's a great moment.
