Well, my favorite anime film of all time is Spirited Away. I don't watch all that much anime, so at least we know it's not too inaccessible for people who aren't absurdly obsessed with Japanese culture...

It got onto Roger Ebert's Great Movies List, and with good reason. It can very broadly be described as Japan's version of Alice in Wonderland. Although the world in it is very strange, it doesn't feel like weird-for-the-sake-of-weird insanity like you might expect. The film does a fantastic job at creating a feeling that there is a world of spirits within our own, and humans weren't meant to be there. Chihiro (the protagonist) undergoes some very satisfying development through it all as she adjusts to her extremely unfriendly situation.

The dub vs. sub thing is up to you, but for the record Disney's English dub is absolutely fantastic.

Haruhi Suzumiya, Code Geass, Baka & Test etc. are good for beginners, I think. Or anything from Miyazaki - particularly My Neighbour Totoro.

Well, the best is to start with the classic ones. JoJo is one of them.
Other than that, I'll of course recommend Nichijou. If you like slapstick humor, you're going to like it.
Anyway, I don't have many tips since I am myself not a big fan of, quote and quote, "Anime". I only watch the ones I like or want to see.

Speaking of stuff I'm watching, I started watching Steven Universe. I heard a lot of good things about it, and after watching some of it, I can say that the reputation is well deserved.

Appart from that, what's going on here ?
