The weirdness is the realistic aspect it has. It's out of place for a Mario-themed stage.
Agreed. The realism direction that stage had was really off-putting. I didn't really like that they brought back that stage in Smash Bros 3DS, it looks even more jarring with these colorful autoscrolling Mario stages already existing on the same roster.
To be honest, I don't mind it that much, but it is out of place anyway and yes, more jarring considering we have 3D Land or Golden Plains that take on vibrant colors.
I think we can agree all characters look great in this game. Haha.

But really, this game's art direction is the best of any Smash Bros. game so far. Especially when looking at the HD greatness of the Wii U version.
The Duck Hunt Duo is a very interesting character addition. I really like the detail where the dog's color changes actually resemble other dog breeds.

Playing For Glory mode 1v1. I use Ganondorf against a guy using Link. Lost twice, but won the next two matches.
He switches to Ike and beats the Great King thanks to Counter spam. Yay.
I beat him at his own game using Lucina.
Then I switch to Dark Pit. He keeps Ike and I lost.
He quits and comes a Little Mac player. I keep Dark Pit as my choice.
I win. He quits after one match! HAHAHAHAHA!
I'm not. Personally, I find the equipment really fun to play with. I love to put max speed on Pac-Man. It makes him jump so high that he can go above the screen on pretty much any final destination stage. using only two jumps.
