Except PS-All Stars was a smaller game with less content and a smaller roster, and most of those costumes were released as DLC.
You try coming up with and creating 3 alts for a 45+ character roster along with having to create all the trophies, stages, music, and a whole bunch of other stuff that takes up dev time before release.

Hell, half the characters they did put in we barely cared for and were mostly new, with few nostalgic characters. It was half Smash Bros. clone, half advertisement ploy.

Don't compare P-All Stars to Smash Bros.

I'll admit, many of that was mostly due to all the third parties. Of all thing they did wrong, I don't blame them for that.
Sakurai at least has the luxury of having many Nintendo IPs (with a few third parties) to choose from. However with Sony, you're at the mercy of many devs. You have to make sure everyone is happy and not angry in any way you can. And it's not as easy as it sounds.

Does Villager really count though? Look closely and it's only 4 truly unique models, just palette swapped to look significantly different. I guess all of Pikachu's hats are alternate costumes.

I don't think it's that he's against alt costumes for every character, more that they would just take up too much time when they could be using that time to improve the game in other areas.

Oh, I'm not fanboying, don't worry. P-All Stars was just a disappointing execution for Sony, that it ain't fit to be compared to Smash.

The only thing I can respect for them is they tried to create a different gameplay style to Smash in how to fight. It just wasn't fully developed.

Would you rather have a game that is less polished or a game that comes on early 2016? I would rather take a polished game now please.

Your absolutely tasteless joke is ironically truthful since the Sonic Simulator robots do in fact have alternate colors for Sonic that actually change him from being blue, as does the online multiplayer in Sonic: Lost World.

The majority of the cast has at least one alternate costume candidate, so it's unfortunate that few got legit costumes (while others got skins, like Fierce Deity).

Mr. L, Dry Bowser, Cosmic Guide, Ocarinadorf, and Ms. Pac-Man would have been rad, among others.

It could also have been neat to have had a sort of HD Arcade Donkey Kong -- that is, take the original 8-Bit form and transfer him into a 3D environment as an alternate costume for DK.
