I was unaware of that actually. At the time the art style to me looked more like something a western studio would do.

That's true, a lot of anime have Western art influences, or some Western cartoons looks like they came straight from Japan. When I first looked up this anime, I seriously thought it was a cartoon from a Western studio:

Of course, I'm one to believe that art shouldn't be restricted to any region, and this goes for any particular style.
