Smash 3DS Smash 3DS comes out on Sept 13 in Japan, but when will Japanese Gaming Media Outlets get copies?

My point is this. Since there are atleast presumably two more newcomer trailers left (one including Shulk, the other Chorus Men/Marshall), when WILL Sakurai show them? Gaming Outlets generally receive their copies one week or sometimes even two weeks before launch. That really only leaves this month for Sakurai to announce anything he wants before it potentially gets leaked on to the internet by these gaming outlets.

I mean, there is still so much UNKNOWN aspects of the game we need clarification on. What is the challenge mode? What is the streetpass functionality? How does Classic Mode operate? Can Smash Run be played offline as well? What was this "All-Star" mode Sakurai talked about, and why does he want to include as many assist trophies as he can for this supposed "all-star"mode? How will online play work? Will sticker be returning? How will Trophy Rush work? Does Smash Blast have a role in unlocking stuff?

Finally, there are two aspects of the game which I believe need more elaboration and emphasis. Stages, and characters. We still have 12 very likely veteran returnees, and don't tell me that Sakurai is going to keep them secret after having revealed the likes of 4 Fire Emblem chars, Toon Link, and Luigi. Second, stages. For the 3DS, we don't have a single new stage for Big Name franchises like Donkey Kong, Kirby, and Metroid, let alone a crapton of others (ie Pikmin, Ice Climbers, Wario, F-Zero, Mother, etc). Newcomers also factor into stages. Will we get a Xenoblade Stage, or a Rhythm Heaven stage? Seriously, with potential newcomers, 15 (if not more) character additions to the roster is very likely, so WHEN will they be revealed?

My final point is this. WE NEED A SMASH DIRECT VERY SOON., THIS MONTH.
Thoughts? Comments?

I don't get your point? It will be leaked when the Japanese version comes out so we will know everything before the people who get early copies can tell us. But, Sakurai pretty much has under a month to tell us the last bit of info he wants to, either way we'll know c:<

EDIT: **** what I said, I misread the title. Yeah I agree, Sakurai whether you like it or not we'll know the roster in a month

I understand this. Sakurai should get all the information out before retailers begin to stock them, that way....no info can be leaked.
In short- Sakurai has even less time to get all the important info out, and thus...a direct may end up being the only logical thing.

But announcing everything beforehand destroys the surprise and excitement of actually getting the game. Usually some characters/stages are not officially announced...

But it isn't like there will be any surprise unless you completely block yourself from the Internet. Everything is going to get revealed once the final version of the game is out of Bandai Namco studios. It doesn't matter what Sakurai does, we will know everything in the game by the time it is released in America. He is well aware of the nature of the Internet, and having a huge blowout before they ship the game in Japan would not surprise me in the least.

Sakurai has said he doesn't like leaks (especially with the SSE cutscenes). He will still add those secrets for people who don't like leaks.

Think that's bad? There's even more **** to wonder about the Wii U version aside from "B3tt3r Grafx"

What Sakurai should do is release the games.. Wait a month after the Wii U version has released in all regions, then release a free DLC character that is downloaded straight to consoles that have been online and have been playing the game, without any fanfare. People turn on the game, go to the character select screen and BAM!

"What is this I don't even, I don't recall Paper Mario being in this game"

Or even if you have to unlock them. People will think they know the whole roster and then BOOM nope

Well theres a bit of a difference between somebody who follows the game hardcore and somebody who doesn't really. Like, the moment that the roster is leaked whether it be by the Japanese Release or something else, we're going to know EVERYTHING before Sakurai actually wants us to. And for us, we want to know by Sakurai's word rather than when the leak comes out.

Like, wouldn't you be more excited to see a picture or a trailer of a character rather than just seeing their name on a list?

But again, this is just for us hardcore fans who find out about these leaks ASAP. So we might just be selfish.

Honestly, I'll probably be pressured to look at the leaks about a day after the game comes out, but it's upsetting that's something we can DO now. I know people want to know everything, but unlockables are there to be new and interesting. I don't know if I'm being a hypocrite, because I knew all the smash64 unlockables before I got them...

Except that he's more likely before release...

But really, I think we will have a direct next week. I think it's very likely with how the meta kinght tease being a slap in the face to reveal not only him, but also information on the site that frankly, brings more doubts than certainity.

They're taunting us and usually, directs are mostly in the 2 middle weeks of the month and not likely to happen on Friday. For so much information, I expect the announcement to be a matter of days and possibly a 2 days wait for a smash direct.

That or general direct with a trailer of 10 minutes, lol it won't happen.

I agree with the majority of people on this site in that I'd rather hear about it officially rather than have it leaked to us when the japanese version comes out.
If he wanted to avoid that he should have done a worldwide release.

Even with a worldwide release review copies are out first, which can only mean a leak

Yeh but it's not a month in advance.
Sure it's likely to get leaked a couple days early but not a month early.

The roster is going to be everywhere, you'll have to stay away from this entire Forum board, if you have any smash friends on Facebook, twitter, tumblr, you're going to have to un-friend them. The people here and myself are eager to know the full roster and everything about the game ASAP. Brawl did have a no spoilers forum but, it doesn't seem like theres one for Smash 4 this time around.

I have a question. Why do gaming outlets get games early? I know its their job to review the games, but do companies like Nintendo have to give gaming outlets review copies before the release date?

Its because they want people to give them a good rating the moment it's released.

Yeah, but do they have to give them review copies? Smash Bros will sell well without any reviews. So it's not like they completely depend on reviews for sales like some other games might.

Surprise and excitement...? The more you know about the game, the more hyped you get.

They are getting it 2 weeks before and will be rubbing it in our faces and say "We have the game! But we won't be able to talk much about it!"

And then, they post articles talking about their impressions.

Then, they post about how amazing the game is.

Then, they'll re-state and drive home the point that they have the game in the office.

Then, in their podcasts, they'll talk about the game but say they can't say much.

Oh, and they'll say they have the game.

The same thing can be said for Mario Kart 8, and reviewers got that game like a month early practically.

It's not a matter of HAVE to, it's good marketing. By doing it they will likely get more sales which is why they do it.

It's not our fault the game comes at a later date for America and Europe. Chances are when it comes out in Japan, we go and get the secrets spoiled from them.

They will have some sort of embargo and won't be able to talk about secrets until at least a week has passed since release, but there will be leaks. Oh, there will be leaks.

Only bad games have that embargo. I remember when MGS4 reviewers weren't allowed to say there were like 4 hours of cutscenes.

Retailers usually get games up to a couple weeks in advance. and you just know there is going to be someone that opens a copy, plays it, and takes pictures of doing so. It would not surprise me if we start getting leaks left and right once September rolls around. As much as Sakurai wants everything to be a surprise, it is going to happen that we know everything about the game on or even before the Japanese launch.
I applaud him though in keeping the game under wraps so tightly. It is not easy to do. Brawl had leaks months before release. Smash 4 has had surprisingly few leaks, all of which have been struck down. Im guessing that the official site will be like Brawl's in that not everything will be revealed until after launch of the game.

Not always true. I find "exploration" of the content more hype worthy than looking it up beforehand.

Hadn't heard about it?

"A report was recently posted, describing what restrictions Konami Digital Entertainment placed on reviews of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. As usual, plot elements had to be kept blanketed to avoid spoilers, but strangely enough, some technical details were also specified in the list.

Specifically, the length of the game's cut scenes and the install size of the game on the PlayStation 3 hard drive were allegedly embargoed."

It's a form of advertising. Especially if reviews are positive.

I like exploring for content I know exists. Wouldn't it be funny to have explored Brawl without spoilers only to find out years later that you'd been trying every trick to get Mewtwo?

I'm hoping everything gets leaked from the media reviews. An official confirmation of content would be nice, but a valid and undisputable media leak is just as good. I wanna know what there is as soon as possible, and I'm tired of having to be worried that Rhythm Heaven might be in while Ridley might not, when it should be the other way around =P.

Even better if they leak gameplay footage and menus and things, but that's less likely than just some screens.

When he said Assist trophies factor into all-star mode what about you get an assist trophy once you complete all-star with a certain character like you get Elec Man if you complete all star with Mega Man Samurai Goroh with Falcon Colour-TV Game 15 for ROB Waluigi for Wario Magnus for Pit Phospora for Palutena If all this makes any sense

I'm pretty sure Vintage was saying "wut " about the "only bad games have embargos" part.
Great games have NDAs on reviews as well.

I really wish that Smash would release simultaneously in all regions like X&Y did. Not just because I'm like

But because also for spoiler reasons. Unless they pull an MK8 and just spoil all the things themselves.

I think they are doing a MK8 since Coro Coro Put characters like Luigi and Tink in the starting characters bit yet Sakurai said they are unlockable
