I'm tuning out of all smash and gaming media from Sept until the NA Sm4sh 3DS release. I know some people don't mind having everything spoiled, but I want there to be some secrets when I download this from the eShop. I'll tune in for the Sm4sh direct (I'm confident there'll be one in the last two weeks of August), and then nothing more till 3 Oct. Anyone else doing the same?

Uhm no, I don't...

I'm dying to know the entire roster and because that I'll be following some stream from Japan, nevertheless I'll try to not see the unlock methods, ídem with the stages... The emotion of the screen of Challenger Approaching is so much better without
knowing too much beforehand

Good luck to you man, that's a bold decision

The best route to take is to spoil the roster and then let the rest of the game be a pleasant surprise to you.

At least, that's my plan, anyway. I might watch a few streams when people are playing multiplayer.

I love the internet, but I miss the good ol' days of not having it. Where you had to discover secrets via GamePro or something and then tell your friends about it, only to find ways of unlocking other stuff and seeing if certain things were possible.

Even if the roster is spoiled, not knowing the way ways to obtain them would justify that a little bit.

Having hope for certain characters is thrilling even after release, but when it's crushed it's like what's the point -- just let me unlock everything faster and get it over with.

I'll casually spoil myself, I suppose. Not if I can help some random WAD posting images everywhere without care or notice.

Okay.........so you not use your computer, smartphone, pad, miiverse, youtube, twitch, twitter, facebook, and of course,Smashboards after the Japnese lauch and before the world wide launch. I think this is a little bit bad, hope you watch some live stream after you play.

You'd have to be extremely careful where you go lest the most unrelated site spoil you info.

That and how you use your tablet, phone or computer would also be an issue. Good Luck.

I see no point in blocking it on the 1st, I'd say the 10th is more reasonable.

I'm torn myself, I guess I'll decide at the time.

Ok? How many threads are people going to make about "I don't want spoilers"? Seriously, no one cares if you don't want spoilers.

I don't. It is SO good to know stuff about a game before spending a lot of money on it. Thank you for existing, Internet

No. I'm unable to not let the roster spoil to me, because that means I have to avoid every gaming site for three weeks and I can't do that.

You're gonna try and block almost all gaming media for a month and 3 days? Good luck with that.
The only things I don't want spoiled are the opening cinematic and some other small things.
As for other stuff like the starting roster and stages and secret characters, I'll probably try and spoil those things.
Edit: Also, what will you do about POTD? Will you still read those?

Spoiled or not, I really don't care. I'll be ready for Smash Bros. 3DS when it comes out in 46 days.

Nope, I wanna know everything. No point in delaying a surprise when the details are why I'm hyped. Plus, I like the internet too much, and can't see myself deliberately blinding myself to information over something as silly as Japan getting a game first.

Which happens... almost all the time.

I'm not, mostly because there's nothing in this game that I care about being spoiled.
I see being spoiled as learning about the plot of the game before experiencing it. Smash Bros does not have that, so I'm good.

That said, I probably won't go look up a lot of videos, and won't lookup how to unlock any stages or assist trophies or stuff.

I'm gonna try it this time around. I spoiled everything as soon as it was leaked in Brawl and researched the most optimal way to unlock everything and went to work right after buying the game. It felt like a chore to be honest, so I kind of just want to be surprised with this game. I'm going to be patient and ignore the smash community until the game is released and I demand to gasp with disbelief when unlocking the hidden characters.

I'm going to try...I mean, it'll be impossible not to have anything spoiled unless you never go on the internet so yeah. I just don't want EVERYTHING spoiled.

Before the Japanese launch I'll have started school so... I doubt I'll have time to lounge around online looking at Smash information. I'll probably join your vow of silence, per se, just not quite as much by choice.

I'm gonna ditch SmashBoards and SmashWiki from the 13th to the 15th, just because I'd rather wait till the final roster is fully confirmed rather then fall for fake character select screens. And I don't want the websites that I'm looking up info on crashing on me every few minutes.

I'm going to be on a self-imposed Smash info drought as well. I doubt I'll get through 100% spoiler free, but even one newcomer being a surprise would make it worth the wait.

Thought this was about some official embargo announced. My fault or title's?

I will stop actively looking for info like I do now, but if news still finds it's way to my YouTube newsfeed, so be it. Though I might unsub to GameXplain temporarily because if Hyrule Warriors is anything to go by... they'll be all about them spoilers 24/7.

You're crazy.

As someone who will be openly streaming the game on release day with an amazing co-host I can honestly say that you will forever be sorry that you missed that single moment on that one stream where Ridley got unlocked and the internet exploded.

The likelihood of me unlocking an un revealed character (veteran or not) during gameplay is so high, can you imagine what the stream is going to look like when it happens? Madness.

Probably not forever sorry, no. It would be fun to see that, though, no doubt. But more fun to find surprises myself. However, if (when) Ridley is found to be unlockable, the hype will be heard, embargo or no.

The funny thing is, you and anyone else who "goes dark" won't be online to converse with each other about how much you don't know about Smash 4 lel

I love it as well, but I never really had any problems buying the games I thought I would enjoy back in the day. Coverage still existed and gamer's common sense helped. I love coverage of games nowadays. The problem is the internet killed any mystery there was to finding things out. It's less fun when I get spoiled. That was the joy of being a kid and growing up like that.

Mortal Kombat was most fun before the transition to 3d and the internet. Old school graphics are awesome on their own. Aside from that...Not knowing what secrets lied, what fatalities etc were available, characters, was more fun than knowing them all or knowing you can know in just a couple of minutes. There's hardly any thrill in gaming nowadays unless the gamers themselves make it so.

You'd have to avoid every gaming site on the planet to do that, and even the most unrelated websites could post information regarding Smash Bros. It's a huge hit for Nintendo.

Though ideally I'd like to blackout from the internet, most of the sites I visit are gaming-related and there's bound to be someone on my Skype who will mention the roster to me or indirectly.

Props to anyone who successfully pulls it off, though.

I will try. I will really, really try.

By the way, does anyone know of somewhere where I could find a spoiler-free list of unlockables, when the time comes?

Surprising Smash is REALLY popular in my school among COD and GTA, so it'll end up getting spoiled for me. I'm getting the WiiU version so I wouldn't care to spoil the 3DS version myself. Plus I wouldn't want my friends coming up to me telling me my favorite character didn't make it in the game, I'd rather see myself.

I was considering doing something similar to this, but Smash is a fighting game. A large majority of the enjoyment I get out of these is playing against others. Assuming the online isn't broken and horrible like Brawl's was then I'll be jumping right into that and I know a large portion of people playing will be unlockables and newcomers. Not gonna wait to get the entire roster before wrecking people.
