Call me crazy, but I love this move. I'm assuming the consensus around here is that Samus' Upsmash is useless. But god, I can't stop spamming it :urg:. Is this a habit I should shake?

There's a small window where you can catch a grounded opponent and they will eat all of it. I like to catch them out of a roll or when they're recovering above the ledge. It works great on fatties especially.

Now, I don't play against top pros every day, but I think we are overlooking the potential of this move.

There's also a good chance I am wrong, though. :ohwell:

Jab Cancel>Sliding Upsmash>???air

It's called the "Hyphen Smash," since a hyphen (-) is a dash. This is not to be confused with DACUS (Dash Attack Canceled Up Smash).

Anyway, Samus u-smash has its uses against tall characters, as well as characters that are above Samus, whether by standing on a passable platform or just simply above her from jumping.

Im not familiar with the terminology here, but does it have any use against grounded opponents? If you can time it right, I think you can rack up some % when they come out of a roll and such.

Small question does not deserve own thread

Usmash works well if you charge it after a downthrow, many opponents will airdodge while you charge -- release the smash when their airdodge frames run out for extra damage
Another use is jab once against a shielded opponent to weaken shield -> dash usmash to poke
Another option is to smash missile cancel against a fatty in shield to either poke or connect, follow with immediate dash usmash. This combo does about 35%, works well on big/tall/fat opponents.

what the ****.

the purpose here wasn't just a small question.

i think there might be more to this move as far combo strings go. you gave some good input, but its not as cut and dried as you make it out to be imo.

this might bring up good discussion.

Well, in MY opinion it IS that cut and dry. Usmash certainly has its uses, however you should not rely on it.

Usmash is a must vs any character who tends to outlast Samus (TL, Marth, fatties) but should only be used at low percentages. If you're not careful then your opponent will either avoid or SDI out of the move, which costs you stage presence and possibly damage. It's a good follow-up for when you hit an aerial opponent with either homing missile, Zair, or a weak arial in some cases. As n00b said, it's great for punishing airdodge because it outlasts the invulnerability. However, it shouldn't be used as an anti-air because the hitbox simply doesn't have enough range, and the floaty Brawl characters will just wait you out.

I've loved this move of Samus' ever since my Melee days of maining her, but that does not make it a good move.

i swear though that if you can predict their roll theres a TINY hitbox that you can set up some delicious stuff with.
