TRA
Smash Journeyman
Hello,
My name is TRA, and I am a victim of Dolphin Slash Abuse Syndrome (hereafter known as DSAS). The abuse has humble origins, I would use Dolphin Slash against opponents who would try to keep me in jab locks. Then, things started to spiral out of control. I started using Dolphin Slash when I was getting chained, and now I use it whenever I miss with a smash or a shield breaker and my opponent comes in to punish. I even spam it in Marth dittos when my opponent Marth uses Dancing Blade, and it usually works even then!
At first, I thought I was alone in my DSAS, but I've seen a growing trend, so I thought it was time somebody addressed this situation.
Dolphin Slash is wonderful, and I still sometimes purposefully miss space with a charged smash or shield breaker in order to bait my opponent into a Dolphin Slash (this works best with shield breaker, btw) for a kill, but Marth mains need to be conscious of their frantic up B pressing, especially after the first match of a set, when a good opponent will have recognized your unfortunate DSAS and start baiting it and punishing you.
To help us out, I've come up with a few alternates to Dolphin Slashing, and I encourage you to add more:
1. Instead of using Dolphin Slash to escape from chains and WOPs, DI and fair/dodge
2. Instead of using it as an "Oh S***" move when you whiff a smash, just space better, be very conscious of Marth's range, and use it to your advantage
3. Don't use Dolphin Slash to get out of Dancing Blade in dittos, just use Smash DI and you're usually fine.
Keep in mind, I still think that Dolphin Slash is ridiculously amazing, I mean, Cmon: invincibility frames, great knockback, etc. It's just that I want other Marths to be more considerate so that when they do use Dolphin Slash, it is fresh and therefore a better kill move.
Happy Slashing!
