-I wish to continue improving the overall depth, and connection I have with those who read my blogs. Before you think I am arrogant, stupid, or just about any derogative statement you can think of by misunderstanding what I really wish to get across. Please, don't hesitate to reason with me beforehand-

Today, I wish to approach a whole new element that is irrelevant to my usual psychological theories:
-Sound-

Sound, a very beautiful sense we have that gives life to the subjects around us. I believe that as much as colour represents life and individuality, sound is what really gives us essence. Knowing that our voice is part of sound, aswell as our soul, I would never trade it for any of our other senses. I believe fullheartedly that sound is it's own true colour.

This is where things get a wee bit deep, so bare with me. -

When you look around you outside, you hear locusts, crickets, all kinds of bugs, aswell as nature's mighty roars. Have you ever thought to yourself, that silence never existed in reality? Only in our subconscious; dreams? Ever since we built houses, we were able to completely nullify sound. This could be why silence has the most powerful effect on us. It could be just me, but silence feels like a very soft drill that drills into your eardrum. It's a very strong effect for something that is nothing. Could be possible our brain can't recognize it.. We managed to block off one of our natural senses, and I am curious if this can be silently affecting us in some way because of it.

Any thoughts? (This OP is nothing more but to explain what we are talking about)

I am having alot of trouble putting this together. /=

I am onto another awesome theory, and I hope you guys can help me build onto this theory.

I wish to see responses that further manifests this theory I am slowly putting together.

Try to contribute guys. Silence is defeaning. I really wish to see what this theory can lead to.

Tl;dr: Silence is silently silencing us cuz we we think we r bob da builder :awesome:

How did silence exist before houses were built? There was sound everywhere in the world. There is not one place without sound.

Humans have created silence by building houses, since the walls close off the soundwaves outside.

The only place where genuine silence exists is found in our subconscious, if you ever experienced a vivid, silent dream.

So I am curious if, by closing off one of our predetermined senses can lead to any problems in the longrun.

I am simply trying to find out if this artificial silence human has created by closing off the outside world, is healthy for us.

As you can see, I am having a difficult time putting all of this together. I know I am onto something worth discussing though. .-.

So, if people made blindfolds or sleepmasks to block out light, did darkness exist before blindfolds/sleepmasks?

I mean, there's light everywhere, right? Like, back in the day, before houses, there was stars and the moon n s*** and during the day there's the sun thing. So, is darkness just a recently invented concept or what?

I mean, like, I think uh... Like, do you ever wonder if there's anybody out there, in space? I mean, what if they're out there, looking at the stars wondering the same thing. I'd be all, "I'm right here, n****."

Then they'd be all like, "Dude, not cool, my grandpa was a space slave during the space 1800's." Then I'd be all, "**** man, I didn't know. Sorry."

I am talking about sound. How in the ************ does sound even come close to being related to sight .-.? It's not. Sound, you cannot runaway from. Even if you cover your ears, you will hear your heartbeat, or the muscles of our body moving, even your stomache's gurgling sounds. This was BEFORE houses were built. Now that houses are built, we are able to hear ''dead silence'' by just being in our house alone.. It's defeaning, and we can't ignore it.

Why am I replying to a troll in the first place.. .-.

Turn that frown upside down, Allen Vision. You totally can run away from sound, stupid. You just have to run really really fast. Over 768 miles per hour, in fact.

It's funny because he's making a good counter point, because most people in fact do not hear 'dead silence', but keep telling yourself that while most people continue listening to music, watch tv, do ****ING ANYTHING THAT MAKES NOISE. Also if you think that air circulating around a room makes zero sound, you need to just give this **** up.

It's funny that you're arguing that we've created silence and closed ourselves off from the beauty that is sound, because I'd actually argue that we've done the exact opposite. In making all of our cities and settling in so much of the land it's actually generally harder to get away from sound than you seem to think it is. I'd know, because I actually find the constant noises to be pretty annoying sometimes when all I'd like is some peace and quiet.

I wouldn't say that constantly hearing people saying inane things or something silly on television or some idiots setting off fireworks at 2 AM is a good thing. And my house doesn't even protect me from any of that.

Yeah, if I turned off my fan right now and just sat in my room I'd probably hear pretty much silence, but I think the most pure silence I've ever heard was when I went out one night and sat outside at like...I dunno, midnight, 1 AM, something like that. Not on my porch, nothing indoors, completely outside. Probably one of the best sounds I've ever heard in my life.

Also, as for the "houses created silence" argument, even if it weren't for the fact that I found silence while completely outside, it's noteworthy that there's no sound in space, which is arguably the most basic atmosphere there is.

I mean, I absolutely love music, and there are a (small) handful of other sounds that I absolutely love. For the most part, though, I have a hard time seeing where you're coming from in arguing that silence is bad. Silence actually allows you to think and relax -- something highly underrated and rarely practiced nowadays -- and the fact that technology is working as hard as it can to make that completely impossible is one of the reasons I hate the way technology is developing.

Silence is powerful, indeed. In drama class we learned to use silence on stage as a tool that can be just as dramatic or more dramatic than noise.

The silence that was spoken of here was just the lack of any sound going on in the scene. Chairs were creaking, someone sneezed in there, I could hear my breath, there were footsteps. It's not as if we were actually 'closing off our sense of hearing'.

The reason silence is powerful is because it is a CONTRAST to what we had before, being noise. A deaf person who has never heard a sound will not be affected by silence as he has nothing to contrast it.

EDIT: @Firus, I agree.

You know, when there is supposed to be silence and I try to block out all noise, I start hearing all the tiniest sounds from all over, and my perception of where they're coming from is massively heightened. By the end if I keep my eyes closed, I can almost paint a picture of everything around me with sound alone.

Kinda helps me understand how blind people can navigate so well guide dog and stick being irrelevant.

Where people get NOTHING.
Teran can paint with all the colors of the wind.

There is no such thing as silence in it's strictest sense unless you're in the void of space. As long as you have something around you that vibrates which includes air, there will be sounds if only minute ones.

And um I thought we built houses uh..so we didn't get rained on and stuff? Plus if it has electricity you can hook up to the interwebz which is pretty cool.

I was having so much trouble trying to put this together. I forgot there was people who lived in cities where sound can never be escaped. .-.

Alright, let me try to explain this again..

I am talking about just anytime in your life, if you live in a place where you can experience ''dead silence'' like I can. In my room, the window is shut, the door is shut. The neighbors around us are either old, or have night jobs. It is so silent it feels like the entire room is disembodied from the rest of the world. This is the effect that -does- exist, and I was curious if it can cause any problems in the longrun. Since the only way you can experience this -dead silence- is if you are in a completely calm neighborhood, no mice, or bugs ravaging through your ****, and a house that is built by man. There is no other way to -not- hear this deadening silence. This is what I am trying to explain..

Also.. For those arguing about space. Who are we to say we were meant to even build a rocketship to make it there? I am talking about what we obviously can live in. Space is a death trap. So that nullifies the point of even going there.

Firrus, this is -NOW-. Back then, trees were not cut down. Animals, and other inhabitants were in their rightful place.. Insects, and other distant noises would -not- allow you to escape from sound. This is what I am trying to explain..

Back then we couldn't escape from sound.

Now we can, if we are lucky enough to be able to be in the right place when everything is quiet. Especially involving insects, and the neighbor's dogs.

No, there is still no way to completely avoid sound, at best it's 'quiet' and you'll still pick up ****ing ANY SOUND you make, OR ANYONE ELSE NEAR YOU, so no, there is no long run problem unless you and GENERATIONS AFTER YOU spent your time making sure NO ONE EVER MADE A ****ING SOUND til you lost your goddamn ears.

inb4 there are things we were meant to do and things we weren't.

Well looks like I'm a bit late for that....

Bees build beehives in which they process and manufacture honey and nulify outside sound. This was instinct. It is human nature to build houses and rocket ships because it is our instinct to improve.

This true silence you speak of existed before houses and before the earth itself if you want to look back that far. It is peaceful and calm and has no negative side effects.

^this

baby godzilla is here to say that if we assume that earth was created from the big bang, there must have been silence before that AT LEAST. True silence does exist; it just seems that it doesnt since we havent experienced much if not any of it

Alright. I agree with you guys. I really liked the beehive example. Sorry. I just like exploring new theories, and this one was a dud. .-. Really cool comparisons though. I never saw it that way. So in the end, this OP wasn't neccessarily a waste. :D Thankyou for your input guys!
