Shouldn't Lucario be faster?

I unlocked Lucario only a few hours ago and I was surprised by how slow he was compared to the Pokemon Movie where he ran about as fast as Fox did. Any reason why Nintendo decided to make him slower for this one?

According to diamond and pearl, pikachu and lucario have the same base speed. And yet, pikachu is faster than lucario in brawl.

I think Lucario's range on all of his moves that use a burst of aura should be extended with higher percentages, too. >,>

Balanced game play was higher on the list then keeping characters 100% cannon to their stories. If lucario was as fast as pikachu he'd be pretty broken in terms of attack strength and knockback. If they compensated for that, he'd have to be generally weaker and/or lighter.. in which case they'd just pick a different pokemon instead of lucario.

Lucario can roll as fast as he can run. Plus, his rolls are obviously invincible, and very hard to punish, as rolls can be linked together with very little vulnerability in between them. There's really no reason not to roll, unless you're trying to edgehog. Then ExtremeSpeed is your friend.

The powerhouses tend to be slow, while the speedsters tend to lack strong attacks. There's a balance for each fighter.

Basically, in Lucario's case, its attacks are fairly weak when it doesn't fly far, but they'll be quite powerful when Lucario has taken plenty of damage. However, it's like using a double-edged sword.
