Should we thank Nintendo for hearing us out?

Yes it was extremely fckkkkked up of Nintendo to do what they did, but if they truly are allowing Melee to be streamed at EVO again, do you think we should send them emails and whatnot thanking them? I think at least some of us should show some respect for Nintendo listening to our community. We should by all means take this opportunity to be as professional as we can at EVO (common sense), as our community will be watched closer from here on out and our moves will possibly determine future big events (Apex, etc). Thoughts??

Luigi sucks
I would give them more of a nod of gratitude with a salty look. We obviously appreciate it so much, but we need to make it apparent that they REALLY need to look into stuff before jumping the gun. We're in the age of the internet. They can't just go with executive orders and think that their fans won't react negatively if they messed up.

Are you kidding? This was obviously a publicity stunt. Ya know how many people were gonna watch the stream? Just the die hard melee fans. Now we got everyone from the fighting game community and the casuals from Miiverse ready to tune in. So many people never heard of EVO before this.
Bad publicity is still publicity.
Let's thank Nintendo for helping draw attention to and raise awareness of EVO.

Dear Nintendo,
Thanks for raising EVO awareness and making such great franchises,

P.S. maybe ya can cash in on the ad revenue from the stream and donate it to cancer research ;)

If nothing else I'd like to thank Mr.Wizard and the rest of the Evolution Series staff at Shoryuken for sticking their necks out for us to get melee back on stream.

I was listening to CT Zero's stream during the whole thing, and someone (I can't remember who, unfortunately) had something really great to say:

Publicity stunt conspiracies aside, I think what Nintendo did is noteworthy. Not only did they listen to the fans (And you all did a phenomenal job, by the way), but they also just expressed passive support for competitive gaming. That's significant.

It went something along those lines, and I think the fact that Nintendo acknowledged the competitive community positively swell. Sure, they tried to cancel it, and we had to fight for it, but at least they listened to us. They listened to us very quickly, too.

Yes, absolutely thank them. They could have completely ignored us, there's not much money for them out of EVO. They're not a sponsor for the event.

In light of all of this, this has shown to me that we're not as alone as everybody thinks we are. We ARE part of the FGC, we ARE part of the gaming community. EVERYBODY spoke for us and supported us. Absolutely thank Nintendo for reversing the decision. You don't have to buy Smash 4 to show appreciation or a Wii U, just thanking them is enough. Hearing thousands of tweets of thanks is a million times more heard. The louder we are, the more they notice us and will begin to realize, "hey, these guys are around and they like us, let's support them back"

Today is history AGAIN in the Smash Community. It speaks volumes for our future. Had Nintendo continued to ignore us, we would have been in a huge rut even for Smash 4. Now we have a future with streaming like we should and our game will get the limelight it deserves; the spotlight it has been waiting for.

So yes, absolutely thank them for reversing the decision.

That is true about EVO, Mr. Wizard, and the other FGC guys. They all could have pointed and laughed about how we miserably failed, but they did indeed support us and spread our message. So a big thanks to them also. Granted, our community deserves support. We have to fight for every inch we get as a competitive scene.

Thank them for the game itself. Then thank them for letting people know how much we care about a 12 year old game.

More like can be get Nintendo's permission to allow it to be streamed next year too. I feel like if Mr. Wiz got a written/typed document/email saying so it'd go a ridiculous way towards getting melee into EVO next year especially considering the # of entrants melee brought to the table.

there were some positives

in an instant they united our whole community against a common enemy. It strengthened our bonds, and reminded us all just how valuable having melee at evo was. The widespread support from the rest of the internet was pretty cool too

yeah they messed up, but I think they saved some face and do deserve some thanks

Don't send emails thanking them. Makes our community look like desperate beta *******. They made an incredibly stupid decision, fortunately they got their heads out of their asses and quickly retracted it.

Just let things be and nintendo will realize it was a stupid thing to think of in the first place, both for us and for them.

Something to keep in mind: even if this whole fiasco was Nintendo's fault in the first place, nothing good could come of berating them from this. However, showing some humility and respect towards them for allowing us to use their content (as old and obsolete as it is) could do nothing but put the comp smash scene in better favor with Nintendo. Because, let's be honest. They're not a huge fan of us.
