The prioce cut? Anyway you kinda have to expect the price difference when the psp can play movies and mp3.

I've played the DS and I'm not too stuck on it. Maybe I just haven't played the right game for it. Certainly if FFXII: Revenant Wings and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 turn out good I'll consider buying one. Other than that, most of the games either look too short or are just gimmicky.

I have a PSP but I don't use it for gaming too much. It's really a useful little device if you buy a 1GB Memory Stick (and they're getting cheaper by the minute) because then you can play music and watch movies, albeit the movies have to be in MP4 format. Don't worry, though, since there are free MP4 converters for the PSP so you can convert all of the video clips and downloaded movies you want. If you are more of a multimedia person, PSP is definitely the right choice.

As for games, you can't go wrong with MGS: Portable Ops and, when they come out, FFVII: Crisis Core and Jean D'Arc. FF Dissidia looks promising as well.

According to Wikipedia, Sony's senior marketing manager or whatever said that the rumors of a redesigned PSP are false. This is less than a month from E3 and about 5 months from E4All (the E3 as we knew it). This worries me because I really want to play the new God of War game (prequel), the new Silent Hill Game (prequel), and the new Syphon Filter game (prequel) all of which come out before Christmas.

On a side note, HondaFoo accurately explained my issues with the DS. All the games felt either extremely gimmicky or extremely short. New Super Mario Brothers, while a fun game, was entirely too easy. I had no less than 50 lives and good power-ups at any point in the game. The only task was going back and getting all the coins for completion purposes. That task extended play maybe a week more. Trauma Center was fun, but was just a gimmick title to show the versitility of the touch screen. Castlevania: Tales of Symphonia was a fun game but the easiest Castlevania I have played. The only hard part was getting all the souls and using the stylus to end some bosses (a bit pointless and used just to make the game harder). I got to level 99, with the entire Castle explored, all souls, and only the final fight left before I lost interest.

Easily just get the DS. It is better in sales, game sales, Duel Screen(hence DS), and is way better. PSP games have bad camera and playability.

there both good,i prefer psp if you like media stuff, and DS for fun games, psp is not really durable,it can break easily, one drop, bam it gone, gotta take care of it good. i got a psp

DS
-nice games

-durable(except ds lite)

PSP
-can be hacked easily
-some good games
-SHINY!!
-widescreen like LCD
-thumb prints get annoying on your psp
-internet(surf CERTAIN websites)
-use tiny CD's(which i though was preety cool)
-you can save music,videos,photos,even demos
-NICE graphix(dosent matter actually)

I personally have both (bought at separate times). I'm starting to like my decision to get the PSP, now that FFI, FFII, FFT, and CV:SotN are all coming out for it (FFI is already out, and CV:SotN will be included with Castlvania: Blood Chronicles or whatever it's called).
However, all I use it for right now is an MP3 player and for portable video . I have Megaman: Mavrick Hunter X, but I don't really play it much.
My DS, though, I have many games for.
  • Mario Kart DS
  • Super Mario 64 DS
  • Kirby's Canvas Curse
  • Brain Age
  • Nintendogs
  • Pokémon Diamond
  • New Super Mario Bros.
At least, that's all I can remember right now (oh, and the Metroid Prime: Hunters: First Hunt demo). Some of those are lost for the moment, though.

It really depends on what games you're into.
The PSP so far is only really offering ports, but in time, some really good games should come out for it. (FTW GTA LCS and VCS are great).
However, if you like games such as Mario kart, LOZ, ect. I'd get a DS.

As I said, it's really a matter of taste.

DS has more battery life than the PSP. It's got a cover, so there's more protection for the (dual) screen. Get a DS.

If you're going by what the system is capable of(game, music, internet, movies, ect...) then I'd rank PSP 9/10 and DS 7/10.

If you're just going by games, I'd rank DS 10/10 and PSP 1/10.

Seriously, PSP has horrible games. If PSP had games as good as DS it would be the ultimate handheld. If it had games even half as good as DS, it would be the ultimate handheld. It does everything you could want it to do. It plays music, it plays movies, it goes on the internet... But I literally haven't seen one game(unless it was hacked) on PSP that I wasn't tired of in 10 minutes or less.

DS has great SNES/N64 quality games, while PSP's games aren't much better then games you can download on your cell phone.

If you want great games, buy a DS. If you want everything else, buy an iPhone or something(does everything PSP does, plus it's a phone).

I bought a PSP, and I feel like I wasted my money.

PSP has God of War prequel, Silent Hill prequel, and Syphon Filter prequel all within a few months of each other. God of War has shown to have graphics near the PS2. Honestly, if any of those games are remotely interesting, buy a PSP.

My opinion is get a DS. My reasons:

I have a media cart thing, the R4. This thing is amazing. It allows you to access almost all of the homebrew available for the DS. While the selection is somewhat small, a lot of the homebrew cannot be replicated or done on the PSP. Examples include quake, and other FPS ports. DS organize, lemmings, draw, color, etc. Color in particular is impossible on the PSP. For those who don't know, it is a fairly good drawing program, which can produce watercolor-like images in png format. Also, when drawing, it detects the pressure you are pressing the stylus with.

A lot of homebrew is in development for the DS, and from the looks of it in a year or so there will be several very polished apps and games.

I don't know what homebrew the PSP has, but from what Ive heard, it's a lot tougher to get it running, what with sony fighting it with the firmware patches.

Physically, the DS can do more than the PSP. THe advantage of the PSPs hardware is that it can render nicer graphics. However, that comes with the downside of decreasing battery life. In addition to that, the UMD format drains battery as well because power is needed to spin the disc.

The DS has two screens, one being a touch screen. This in particular makes FPS games on the DS possible, and comes second only to the PC in controls. It has a microphone, though I don't see much use in it besides VoIP. The clamshell design is also very useful for protecting both screens.

Games wise, I'll come back to edit the post.

You're on a forum that's based on a nintendo series so the response is going to be pretty one sided....

I honestly can't say that I've spent a lot of time with either of the two handhelds(even though I own them both)...Gaming wise I've spent more time with my DS, mostly playing Fire Emblem games(backwards compatibility is really nice). But if I take one of the two somewhere I know I'm going to need to kill some time, I take my PSP, primarily because of the multimedia on the memory stick. Game selection is just opinion, but if you have the money I would go with the PSP.
