Can someone tell me how I can practice my short hop nairs and shorthop double fairs. I don't even always get the shorthop. Please start very simple when describing how to shorthop because I am basically a noob.

well, I use X to jump, so to do the short hop double fair I just quickly slide my thumb from x to a, which takes care of the early fair and the short hop. however i really recommend just training on getting short hop down so you dont have to rely on sliding like this.. that way you can do short hopped nairs, bairs and dairs.

I short hop with Y. To do the double fair I just tap Y with the tip of my thumb and hit A with the middle part of my thumb. You can also use the C-stick for the second slash so you can pull away from your opponent in order to space yourself so you won't get shield-grabbed. I also usually use the C-stick for my other arials, especially for the U-air so that I can fast fall it and not accidentally use my second jump. After a while short hopping and shuffling should become a simple reflex and you won't have any problem nailing your short hops/shuffles perfectly. Make sure you L-Cancel the second fair and your other arials.

Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Your response only (makes me)/(makes me feel) more noob. That thing doesnt specifically describe double fairing with marth.

When i short hop, I flick my thumb off of the side of the controller, like I barely touch it. Some people's fingers are just fast enough to where they can push the button in all the way but still get a short hop. Marth is one of the harder characters to short hop with (but not nearly as hard as fox or sheik) but go into a match and short hop over and over and over and over again until you can do it at will.
don't practice SHFFLing until you can short hop at will. and don't practice the SHDF until you've mastered SHFFLing. take it one step at a time.

This comes straight out of my guide I'm working on:

Short Hop Double Fair (SHDF):

This is a useful skill for marth players in stringing together combos and possibly ending in a second jump dair for a “Ken Combo”. Ken, Azen, Neo, Husband, Mew2King, and others (including myself) perform this by pressing A for the first fair then using the C-stick for the 2nd. It is the fastest, most reliable way of doing the SHDF. Using the C-stick for the second fair also allows for marth to DI in order to maintain proper spacing from his opponent. When practicing the move, pay attention to when the animation for the fair ends, because that is when the 2nd fair should come out. At first it will be difficult to get the entire second fair out before hitting the ground. With time and practice however, the move becomes fluid and easy.

i have the same problem with SHDF :p SHFFLC i can do fine, but i can only ever seem to get half of the second F-air off when I do it. I use X to short-hop, then Z for the first F-air and C stick for the second. When i try to use A it screws me up because i cant hit it fast enough when i short hop using X. But my way of doing things sucks, i jump with up, wavedash with Y and short hop with X, and shield and roll with R but LC with L <.<

Its not about how you do it, so well as you can do it and react with it. I'm sure i'll be corrected if i'm wrong, but playing marth is the sh to first fa not the fastest hand movement you'll need? obviously things using both hands have closer timing, but as far as moving your hand/finger to do something, all the speed you'll need is this shdf. So work on just being a little faster, finger speed is muscle memory and use, so practice if you need, but thats the bar to reach. If your using Z, try pressing Z earlier in the jump for the attack. if thats not it, your just messing up the timing, and you should be carefully watching the sword and when the animation finishes. Too early and you won't get the second attack at all, too late you won't get it all the way around. its boring, but just set it to no time a level 1 comp and get determined to figure it out =P
