You guys probably know this but if you are in the air after getting hit by a laser you can shine straight away. I wouldn't do it if they have good spacing, but if they are right up on you in a combo you can use it to break their combo.

As you can see here I was combo-ing stric, but he DI'd too far and I wouldn't be able to reach him with anything else but a laser. If you look closely I was going to laser to fsmash to seal in the day, but he shined me LOL.

uh. yeah. lasers have almost zero stun. thats why marths will fair after getting hit by a laser. it's annoying.

also i think you had time to catch him with a nair or maybe dair, regardless. you should have wd'd forward either way, then you definitely would have.

realistically i didn't go forward because of the chance of him going backwards. It's better for me to have stopped, this way i could use the laser f smash if he went too far, but i could have completed the nair combo of he had DI'd left.

nope. if you wd in the direction your shine sends him by default (i.e. if he doesnt di), there are three options:

1: he dis backwards. this makes him go very little distance horizontally and you have time to run backwards and get to him

2: he doesnt di and gg lol

3: he dis fully forwards (as your friend did in that video) and having WD'd in the direction of your shine (forwards) was the only option that allowed you to reach him in time to continue comboing.

lmao number 2. I see what u mean for him DI'ing backwards. I always just take precautions because there's still a possibility of me not making it in time

the problem with taking precautions is that it encourages you to plateau instead of improving. it's like putting a trashbag over your window when it's broken; yes, it keeps out the rain and bugs, but someone can still walk through and steal your ****. you need to actually fix the problems in your game. force yourself to do the right thing; you'll get punished for doing it wrong, or too slowly, or whatever for a while, and getting punished for it will encourage you to start doing it accurately. and then you do the correct response accurately, and have all your options open instead of only makeshift ones.

my point being in this particular case: WD forward and punish to the fullest!

I'm gonna tell you right now that it's because you tried to f-smash after the laser why you got shined. If you did any tilt (even turnaround u-tilt), or shined him yourself after the laser, then that won't ever happen. Also, your approach didn't reach because you almost WD in place. Your WD should always be long to follow-up on spacies in a combo.

But yeah, there are times where you can shine out of laser stuff, but a lot of times it could be completely avoidable.

im not sure if you can in general, but one of the easiest counters to lhdl is to CC and then shine, in which case yes it works.
