Shffling Dairs

I just started playing melee and I'm trying to learn some falco. Right now I'm practicing shffling dairs, but whenever I fast-fall a dair as opposed to my other aerials, I hit the ground almost immediately and only one or so of falco's spins go off. When I don't fast fall but still short hop l-cancel the dair it looks like what people do in vids, but everywhere I read it always says to shffl dairs, so I was wondering how you do that and still get the full move in the air and not hit the ground early.

uh. two things.

1) the answer to your question:

dair earlier in your sh.

2) the more interesting statement:

you really only need the hitbox out as you're actually hitting your opponent. dairing late when you dont need your dair out early is good because it leaves your options open and allows you to, for example, hit low on someone's shield with your attack. so... dairing late in your sh is good sometimes.

3) a question: what do you mean by shffl? shffling is defined such that both things i described are possible in a shffl. unless you're just extremely slow on throwing out the dair after you sh, in which case, PRACTICE

When someone is sheilding its better to do an aerial late because they'll be in sheild lag, and you could sheild pressure from there, so late Dair's arent that bad.

Thanks for the replies. To Foxlist: By shffling I mean I do a short hop and then fast fall the aerial into an l-cancel. I think what was happening was I was doing the dair after the fast fall which made me sink almost instantly. Your advice to do the dair earlier helped because when I do it before the fast fall I dont have that problem.

To everyone else, thanks also for the c-stick tip. I play basically in training mode and for some reason the c-stick won't work there so I've never had a chance to use it. The way I have to do it now tap y -> d-pad down + a -> release -> slam d-pad down to fast fall -> L or R. It's really inordinately difficult so hopefully when I try it with c-stick it will make the d-pad machinations easier and give me less buttons to press in like 2 seconds. Coming from brawl, I never had to do ridiculous stuff like this - not to mention this is just my ordinary approach >.<

Man, I feel like there should be a thread for people who are just starting out so they can get the baby steps of tech skill. I didn't even know you could use d-pad down as another input for down. Haha
