...a game that I have never played before
As it so happens, I was going to write a blog on stopping the "Zelda Wars", only to discover a SOTC war brewing...
I started playing the Wind Waker again, and I thought about a few things; My first reactions to the game, my experiences in past playthroughs, and my current level of enjoyment. I remember that when I was first playing this game, I thought "this just isn't living up to the franchise."
What an *** I was -_-
Difference does not mean danger when it comes to switching a franchise up. Wind Waker Gives the player a feeling of epic adventure arguably better than any other Zelda game. Honestly, who hasn't had that spectacular sensation when the sun rose on the great sea, the light morning flute theme quickly arises and dissipates, and the song thunders in, calling you to go forward on your grand adventure. It's really why we play video games; real life for many people is rather limited on the "grand adventure" side of things.
The point is that Zelda is a superb franchise that can easily be forgiven for it's downsides, whether as a series or in a particular game.
Twilight Princess has been criticized for lacking side quest depth, easy bosses, and and a general feeling that it had too much recycled material.
Ocarina of Time is constantly given the label of overrated, belittled as a "vanilla" adventure with too little innovation, a 3d clone of A Link to the Past, and having a rather frustrating Water Temple.
Wind Waker is belittled as cutesy, too easy, too short, not being Zelda-y enough, and lacking storyline depth.
Majora's Mask arguably had the stupidest criticisms of them all, berated for not being enough like OOT (give me a break!), being to much like OOT, not having enough dungeons, or being "too dark" for a Zelda game.
I can't speak for the other Zelda's, since I don't know them that well, but these criticisms, rather valid or (as is more likely the case) not, I find it to be a useless exercise in narcissism to split hairs over which one of these classics is over or under rated. If a game can ignite you with a sense of adventure, burn your mind with it's puzzles, awe you with it's bosses, and make you strap on leather tights when you're not going to the Castro District for the evening, then why would you try to belittle any one of these fine games?
I'll leave you with the theme of the Great Sea![](http://www.smashboards.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
