Seriously. There are too many threads out there about joke characters, that no one really wants to see in SSBB. Here's a thread to get some serious discussion done, on characters that actually stand a chance of making the cut.
In my opinion, the best character that could ever come into SSBB is Kalas of Baten Kaitos fame. Not only does he stand a chance, seeing as Nintendo is developing (or publishing... or something) Baten Kaitos II. I can only imagine fighting with him in a picture book village stage...

Too true. Personally, I don't like Sonic, but enough people do that he stands a good chance of making it into the game.

As for a moveset for Kalas, I was thinking that:
he would be lightish, maybe aroudn teh same as Samus, and would have multiple jumps, like Kirby. His speed and attack style woudl be similar to Link's, except (obviously) for his special attacks.

B: Water Blade - a hold-the-button-to-charge-up-and-fire move, like Sheik's needles.
B>/<: Chaotic Illusion - similar to Marth's Dancing Blade, but slower and more powerful
Bv: Energy Wave: on the ground, creates a powerful shockwave, like DK's on steroids, but has no comboing ability. In the air, I'm undecided; either he shoots a beam down like Thunder, which then makes a shockwave, or he does Link's sword stab thing, with a shockwave at teh end.
B^: Fangs of Light - like Link's Spin Attack, but longer and less powerful. Kalas goes up whether he's on the ground or not. It can be slightly steered, like Cap'n Falcon's or Marth's.

So yeah. Those ar emy ideas... Feedback?

EDIT: Oh yeah... Super Smash. Dream Blade. 'Nuff said.

It's hard to really know what ryu he is talking about, since there is about 3 million ryus. I'm guessing he either meant Ryu Hayazaki (or whatever his name is, I think I'm pretty close there), the guy on the waterbike thingy; or Ryu from Street Fighter.

I have never heard of Baten Kaitos fame. But I like suprise characters (like Mr. Game & Watch). It's funny on how they would incorporate moveset from them. It's hard to say what Nintendo will do because I wouldn't have thought of Pichu, Peach, or Ice Climbers for SSBM.

I think Conker 1 meant Ryu from Street Fighter.

Yeah, I guess I forgot to mention that I think Y.Link will be replaced with WW Link, because I agree with that. Deku Leaf, Skull Hammer, lots of cool sword moves (for A attacks)...WW Link has potential.

Thaink about it. Every character in SSBB is a polygonal 3D character. Despite cartoony appearences and such, al characters must fit by this standard. Cell shading doesn't exist in Super Smash Bros. because the characters are supposed to look as close to real as thier designs will allow. Does Mario look realistic? No, but his denim sure does, and he looks about as real as a Mario can get. Same goes with Ness. Hell, Marth and Ice Climbers were given new designs to fit this 3D realistic design.

that would look stupid but cell shading in SSBB would be awsome it would add to the diversity of different art styles in the game making it unique and different and better there are no cons about having a cell shaded character in SSBB

but Toad, Geno and Krystal don't have their own series, Stafy is an obscure character, sonic and geno are 3rd party they still have a good chance but legal stuff is needed, baloon fighter doesn't have a name, Diddy has a better chance than them but I still want them all well maybe not Baloon fighter...

Haha, that is partially true and a good point.

However, there is a just a little tweak, I think, in appearance. WW Link is a little shorter and stockier than Y. Link. But that doesn't really matter, maybe add to weight and decrease range or something...but it wouldn't be that important.

His B moves would all be different, because he would have things such as the skull hammer and deku leaf. Deku leaf could be such an interesting game mechanic...I can't even begin ponder of its possibilities!

If you have ever played LoZ: Wind Waker, then you know that WWLink has some interesting sword manuevers. He could have a similar Up+B as reg. Link (maybe, if they don't change it), except that it could charge and you could then, if charged a bunch do a lot of damage and move around. His A moves would change as well, in accordance to his different sword attacks in LoZ: Wind Waker.

WW Link would be sweet, if they made him right.

As destructionking said, it would make him look somewhat like Young Link. It would add to the diversity, sure, but I think it would be kind of hard to add in the first place. There are definitely cons about having a celshaded character. Have you ever seen a celshaded character next to a regular one? Neither have I. It would probably look pretty dang weird.

And, people, please don't make this into a list topic. Scyther intended for this to be serious discussion, not just random hopeful lists.

I never said they would be better than Diddy or that they are more likely, I just said they have very good chances, and Stafy isn't obsecure, he's getting his fourth game for ds, so maybe you could actually read my post next time.

Well, not that I would knock him, I know he'd have a good chance of makin' it, I just can see so many better choices, ya know? I guess it just comes down to me not thinking he's real interesting. But thats just me. Once again, I'm sure that could make him a good character, I just dont see me, or too many others giving him the time of day. I guess I'll post my list of characters I'd like to see.

Custom Robo is popular in Japan... Cant really see Sonic or Megaman in this game. Seems too predictable for Nintendo's taste. Hopefully, Skulls Kid's fans will persuade them.

I disagree. While I think Pokemon like Pichu shouldnt have ever graced the previous installment, Mewtwo deserved that spot. These guys are made for battling. I'm not one for cute and cuddly (hence why I'm against some of the nominations you guts want. Take alook at my list, barely a few "kiddy" nominations.

And I dont think Hammer Bros. is generic. I mean, Ice Climbers had nothing, and look at what they came up with.

And personally about the Pokemon, one of the other is fine. I dont have to have both, as I' rather have Deoxys.
