So I've been learning about SDI and watched the SSBM Tutorial on it but I'm having trouble with the input. Rolling the control stick hurts my thumb so are there any easier ways to do it?

If you wanna smash left and right when you know there's a uair coming, I'd honestly just try doing the inputs for the tightest DD you can manage.

When I smash DI Fox's up-throw up-air I just smash both sticks in the same direction once. The timing needs to be precise but when you have utilities like 20xx its not a very hard thing to become familiar with. Whether this is more effective or not it still works and I am able to do it pretty consistently. Also you can get a lot of mileage off of just DIing the throw properly so they have a much harder time hitting you with the up-air if at all.

There's not really an answer to how to do it easier; the only real answer is it comes with a LOT of time and practice; start with a friend in training mode and slow it down to 1/4 speed to watch exactly when you need to smash DI, then watch for it in real time. You don't need to smash the stick near as hard as you think you do to SDI. Also, it won't always get you out of the uair, because it greatly depends on the direction you SDI, as well as where Fox's body is in conjunction with your SDI because that affects where the hitbox is.
