Seeding for tournaments, how can you know about how one is seeded?

Well, I'm wondering, do people check all past tournament results to see how you placed, or do they just assume you have no skill (if you haven't placed at all, which would be normal for most people who don't like me) and... give you a random high number or something?

Like, I wouldn't even know what my number would be, but I have been going to tournies since 07 and I'm getting better but it's still **** hard for me (as doc) lol. I don't even know how FAR I am from the time that I can place a little higher...

I'm not one to complain about seeding, if I play better people then I get better, I'm fine with that.

Is your seeding number something you should ask in private, that way people wouldn't complain about "OH THATS WHY I LOST" and just flame or something?

Of course, should TO's tell tournament goers what they were seeded, after the tournament? (as I do want to host a tournament in the near future)

Or is seeding not really for people with lower skills, but as a thank you or something for a higher skilled person for putting SO much effort and time into the game (which would therefore thusly give him gdlk smash powers obv)

Pools are like this:
Two top seeds (Well known top level players)
Two mid seeds (Known players)
Two unknowns

3 or 4 get out. 1 plays 4 or gets a bye, 2 plays 3.

With some variances of number of people who get out/how many people per pool.

Correct me if I'm wrong

If there are no pools, than TOs are generally very knowledgeable about how good players are. If you don't have videos/tournament results/word of mouth reputation, chances are TOs aren't going to know who you are and are going to put you as an unknown.

This is how I handle New Orleans tournaments:
I seed the top four players that are there based off Power Ranked status into the four main quadrants in 1-4 and 2-3 method. From there, I find the next level of four players that would be grouped in skill . I give the first set of players tens in Tio, and the second group 9s. If I don't see large enough difference between the next four players, I simply randomize the rest of the bracket by location and make sure familiar pairs don't play each other to the best of my knowledge. At that point, I have at least two individuals check my bracket, and catch any of my mistakes [and to absolve me of any guilt. Bwahahaha]

Pools is simple. I just assign top players to pools in the order of their agreed skill until I no longer know who someone is. At that point, they get put in randomly. For players that travel, I'll typically bump them up slightly in skill if they are from out of state as a courtesy.

The main reason seeding is done is to make sure that you have an accurate finish in terms of placing. The best two players based off prior accomplishments shouldn't meet before finals, unless the players that are closest next to them in skill are able to beat them in the quarter finals.

Wow I like that method -Ran, I don't completely understand the 1-4 and 2-3 and stuff, but I'll be sure to ask you anything a t.o should know. : D
