SB Brawlers! (Updated)

So about 10-15 of us are going to gather friday 5pm at 6657 El Colegio Rd Goleta (aka isla vista) for some crews.

Following that we'll either play a mini-singles or mini-doubles tournament whichever one people prefer.

We have 2 tvs/wiis set up as of now but can add more if needed.

This is more of a mini get together than a tournament. I doubt we could fit more than 25 in the room, but if you want to play singles or teams or crews just PM me and we'll put you on the list! Newbies and vets both are welcome.

I live in Ventura, but I'd be willing to drive up to SB with a few friends for some Brawl. I was the Luigi/Marth at SB Game Fest and I did pretty well until I lost to that some Pit dude and that one high-placing Wario. Let me know when you guys want to get together and I'll see if I can be there.

No we didn't hear about gamefest was that hosted by the SBCC community? Anyways we played some dude that supposedly placed well there and my friend and i destroyed him and his friend like 25-2 in teams. He proceeded to **** us in melee lol.

There were only 2 SB player who placed (1st and 3r), myself being one of them. There was only maybe 5out of 50 players there who were tournament level .

KeepinItFresh - Thanks for PMing me and starting this up man. You're samus is ****ing beastly. I've never seen anyone take out cruss that easily. Next time bring your whole crew so we can have a legitimate crew battle haha. Our team was whining about having only 3 stock so it was harder to hold stock lol (JOHNS).

G - Wow. Never seen a legit Jiggs. Seriously you were comboing weak f-air to strong f-air so consistently it was scary. Next time we come over play cruss in a Lucas mirror. And way to be campy on the final match (whatever works man Erv couldn't figure out that side b would hit you even if you ducked lol). I want to play a full set against you too as I learned some things after that friendly that I shouldn't do.

Julian - Legit Pit. Stop spamming arrows so much or I'm going to bucket you again. Good **** in crew battles. I want to play you in a set of singles too (not where I'm down a stock T_T). Your Ivysaur was legit too. Too bad you had to leave early.

Moses - Didn't get to 1v1 you but your Olimar was pretty good from what I saw from teams.

For those that missed it, we had a legit session. BDSM beat TMG in crews which went down to the last stock, although admittedly it was not legit as TMG only got 3 stock each while BDSM got 5 stock (which is way easier to hold onto). We played some teams after where cruss and I rolled lol. Then we had a mini singles single elimination tourney... which came down a last stock on Final Destination between Erv and G. G came out with the win and we packed it home from there.

I'm going to PM those that replied to this thread. We may gather this sunday, as dead week is coming up followed by finals.

Cruss - Eff your nair approach. My dumbo friends have never tried that approach. Even after I had inquired about the awesomeness of that move they just ignored my musings about adding it to their repertoire. I don't play Lucas so I figured my buddies knew what they were doing. Apparently not. That approach made all the difference in our mini singles tourney, I feel.

Junk - We didn't really get to play much. Thanks for the Samus ditto. Once again, I look forward to facing off against your Marth. Admittedly, I am scared.

Erv - Your D3 and Falco are swell from what I've seen. I didn't get to play your Falco and I definitely am looking forward to it.

As to your other player that beat me with Metaknight in Crews, you're dope too. And unfortunately, the other player and his characters escape me. Regardless, it was much fun hanging out with all of you and BDSM looks forward to lockin' up more often with and against TMG in the future. Like I said, hopefully we can start rallying others and start holding biweeklies or whatever.

Additionally, whoever it was that was playing me with Snake on the side TV is awesome as well. Thanks for educating me about Snake's moveset (read: nair utilization). I'm definitely going to look into that for my buddies.

Btw, Moses = Olimar. Julian was the one that was beastin' with Pit.

I'm not going to be here that weekend but the rest of my group may go to that... It just seems like the attendance would be low so it wouldn't be worth it but I think they'll end up going.

Depends on the Sunday traffic, which I've found can be bad. It takes 45 minutes to an hour maximum on a normal day. But if it's the terrible stop-and-go traffic that SB gets on weekends every once in a while, then it's gonna be long drive.

I'm going to call around and ask my friends if they're game for tomorrow. So, if we go through with this, you should definitely come by. I play Ganon as well so I would look forward to gettin' some pointers from you. I'd say I'm good with Ganon since I actually win sometimes but I definitely wouldn't say I'm a main. >_>

Falcon pointers would be cool too since I loved the knee. Loved. The new hitbox is such a pain though. I still like to play as Falcon because killing someone off the top with his hyphen smash is one of the coolest things in the game to me for some reason. Why the hell is this turning into a confessional?

By the way it's not looking so good. All of my people, myself included, have big papers due on Monday or Tuesday. Gabe - Not sure what your account name is lol. Nice ROB I've never played a good one before... got flat out *****. I should have beat your Snake by just spamming more smashes on that last stock... Seriously that was lame that you kinda counterpicked on the first game (I mean you were discussing it to Foopmaster...) but it's cool it was only a 1-game set anyways. I'm sure I'll play a full set against you in the future.

I shouldn't have put TMG all in the same bracket but that's sort of how random ended up placing us. Anyway good job everyone.

Oh and... I got Melee AND 64 set up again... so we can start busting that out in the future haha.

God, I'm jealous that there seems to be groups of smash players everywhere but where I live. I was the G&W in the SBgamefest. Beat foop in winners, but he had a comeback and got me in the grand finals.

I'm much improved since then, so I've been planning on coming down to santa barbara.

I don't have time in these next two weeks because of finals/projects/papers and what not, but this summer I'm living in SLO and am willing to take the train down to SB if you guys are still getting together in a couple of weeks.

To get some type of idea of how good you guys are, how well did Foop fair? I played him a bit, so I would have some idea of how good the whole group is compared to him.

We were all even imo. Like last time G won a mini-singles single elimination tourney. This time, he didn't go past the 2nd round in double elimination (but only 1 game... we're too pressed on time to run a full fledged double elimination best of 3 set). I didn't get to play Foop in singles. So it's just match ups.

I'd love to G&W (my secondary) ditto someone... I only lost once (including teams) to Gabe's Snake with it in a one-game set which I choked and couldn't finish him even though I was practically up a stock.

I think the best thing about our group is we have legit characters from the whole cast. We have a Lucas, G&W, Marth, Lucario, Ike, Snake, Metaknight, Wario, Gannon, ROB, Samus, Zamus, Jigglypuff, Wolf, Luigi.. and they're all played at a high level. So if you aren't used to one of those matchups you get good experience.

Next time if Mio and you make it we can run a singles and teams double elimination best of 3 tourney.

Yeah, I've got a good G&W, but the only thing I am weak on is specific character match ups. I don't know any good snakes or any competitive MKs, so those would be difficult match ups because I'm just not used to them.

I also have a pretty zesty snake, rob, and Mario (Fludd-->cape = win). My marth is competitive. And fox is fun to **** around with to. So I guess I can add Mario and fox to the mix, but I don't play them enough to give the best representation of them.

Are all you guys gonna be doing smashing it up this summer? Or do you guys just go to school near SB, and will be going elsewhere for summer?

Foop -- Playing your Wario was by far the most fun I've had in playing Brawl. You're a champ and you definitely showed why yesterday. By the way, I'll never EVER forget that ending of a match we had on Frigate. Although it sucked it had to be me to be the butt of the joke, it was a very funny moment to share with you guys. You had the lead anyways so I couldn't be too upset. I look forward to playing you again because it was Cognitive Awesome all over the place. I mean, mind games... errr... yes.

Cruss- We're 2-2 now. How crazy. I definitely look forward to playing your Lucas again because your game is so much different compared to my buddies over here.

Pita -- Best Luigi I've seen. G said he was very happy when he won the match against you because once again... he says he didn't know what the hell he was doing. Too bad I hate Luigi though. You'll learn that about me if we start to hang out more.
