So yeah, Iwata won't be coming to E3 due to health concerns.

Will this effect anything?

Not really, Nintendo's E3 last yeat was a direct, pre-recorded. Iwata was just at LA to take pictures and attend press events which he wasn't even the focus of (like the Pokemon X & Y Q&A last year). He had almost no presence apart from pictures at the booth and at events.

Please Understand.

I'm sorry, I know this is horrible, it's just...too easy.

"Health Concern"
(Noun)
1. Weakness of the immune system
2. Fear of a fanbase upset by a lackluster E3 performance
3. Illness caused by virus or bacteria

I hope he will get better soon. As for E3 I'm sure someone like Reggie could take his place in the events while Iwata sits this one out.

If Nintendo had a different president, he wouldn't be stupid and get sick.

This is why Iwata should be fired.

I rather not have him come if he has any kind of medical concern. I don't always agree with his philosophies... but I still would prefer if he took care of himself. e3 doesn't need some ailing old man to have to spend hours standing around and speaking a language he doesn't normally speak, shaking hands with people who have been shaking hands, being in a room infested with thousands of people exuding foreign bacteria, sweating it up and doing just about the worst things you could do if you have any kind of health concern.

Instead, based Wii Fit God Reggie "The Regginator" Fils-Aime, champion of the seven realms, the ultimate warrior, one who is nigh-invulnerable and immune to petty mortal ailments, will be carrying the hype-train on his ****ing back.

We'll be fine.

I hope it isn't him just being afraid of the press more than it is him ACTUALLY being ill.

Not really, I don't think it will affect anything. Someone else can just present, like Reggie :)

Talking segments wont take 4 times longer than they should. I appreciate his vigor in wanting to present in English himself but it always makes segments longer than they need to be. Hope the man gets better though.

You guys do realize the directs are pre-recorded and will still feature Iwata right?
Actually, haven't a lot of the recent directs featured different people as presenters? Like, I may be wrong, but I feel like I haven't seen Iwata host a direct or anything like that in months.

I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if he let Reggie, Trinen, or even devs like Sakurai or the Treehouse people take over most E3 proceedings this year. I mean, they're better able to relay to the average English/American audience for these types of events. Nothing to Iwata's discredit, but when I see most of the above guys present, I don't really get the same dry, businessey vibe. They just have a little more charisma that makes watching them and the game they're showing more interesting and fun.

While all of this is true and I agree with it, if Iwata does not present at the E3 direct it will either be because of the arguments you just pointed out or because he has been ill for at least a month. Not because he got ill 5 days before E3.

In conclusion him being ill now doesn't change anything except for his presence at the booth for media coverage.

Iwata may be not be there... but we will have his 'Please Understand'.

Seriously, the Digital Event has already been recorded, so we'll see Iwata.

Regarding Iwata not attending E3, I'm not sure I quite believe his claim that he can't go because of health concerns. Given all the controversy surrounding him, I wouldn't be surprised if the real reason he isn't going is because he wants to see if Nintendo of American is capable of enough of handling such an even themselves, which I'm sure we all here think they can. Reggie also deserves some time in the spotlight, and I like Reggie, so I think it's all good.

It might help to link an article about this:

"He's been instructed by his physician not to travel overseas in the immediate future, and so he will not be making the trip to Los Angeles," Nintendo vice president of corporate affairs Cindy Gordon said in an email. "Please understand that it is business as usual for Mr. Iwata, and he continues his normal duties as president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. while he remains in Japan. As always, he will be actively involved in all of Nintendo's activities at the show.
Basically his doctor probably just doesn't want him on a plane. But other than that, it sounds like he's fine, and there's no real need to be concerned about his health. And he'll definitely still be presenting during the Digital Event/Nintendo Direct/whatever it is.

Also, the official statement used "Please understand." Hilarious.

Does it really matter? He can pre-record for the Live Event, and there will be enough others for the show floor and the roundtables and interviews and such.

There so much things that's wrong with this post I'm not sure where to begin.
Be stupid and get sick? Get fired for being sick? Nintendo has multiple presidents.
It wouldn't make a difference if Iwata was there because everything is pre-recorded.

and have a heart, the guy is taking care of his health especially after the passing of Hiroshi Yamauchi(former president).

I think he was being sarcastic.

He should really get fired though. He makes pitiful decisions and says the dumbest things ever. I honestly hopes his ***** ass resigns. & is this post a joke? If you are getting offended, then this makes me question your entire existence.

Yeah, he makes awful decisions, but before anyone resigns I would consider a serious reconstruction of the executive staff instead.

They pretend like their failure is because the market is unpredictable. To some extent I would agree, but there is no excusing how out-of-touch Nintendo has been over the past decade. When they set out to make the Wii, they wanted something that even non-gamers would play. They were financially successful, but I think they are only just realizing that the Wii was a trend. Not "the future". They were not onto something special that needed a sequel. The consumer world has stopped talking about the Wii. That market is GONE. That's how trends work. What you have left are gamers. Stop alienating them.

It has been run by the same old, out of touch, senior Japanese men for longer than it should in the entertainment industry. Nintendo has to change and they know that. I don't think you need inexperienced hooligans making executive decisions, but they should certainly be influencing them. A lot of the new products that do well, like Animal Crossing: New Leaf, had a very well-balanced staff. I don't really think finding success is as hard as they make it out to be with the most renowned IPs and some of the most creative minds the world has to offer.

Just my opinion anyway. A lot of people in the industry would agree, though.

What is this thread turning into? Iwata is not going to E3 due to health concerns and people are joking (and being serious) about him being fired. Why can't we stay on topic?

Yeah I don't think it will affect anything. Hopefully he will be in good condition soon though and it isn't serious.
