samurai goro - assist trophy or character?

on smashbros.com it says:
'At last, Samurai Goro stands on the battlegrounds of Smash.'
which makes me think goro is a playable character.

however, it also talks about assist trophies being invincible in the samurai goro update, which makes it seem he's an assist trophy.
if he's an assist trophy that's pretty lame, but to be honest i expected him to be a playable character in brawl which leads me to believe they placed him in the wrong section... thoughts?

he is an AT. hes not even in the playable characters section. plus look at his model hes less detailed than the real characters.
