That dammit history about the 35 character roster can't be true, look like Sakurai mention the number of characters:
"The number of regular characters is impressive on its own"
"there are a plethora of regular characters "
by sakurai at iwata ask page 4 and 5

edit:when he says regular characters he is talking about the playable char including the unlockables

yeah but I think 39 playable movesets is pretty impressive..

granted I don't believe the neogaf leak, due to its blatant lack of evidence, but 35 characters and 39 movesets is pretty darn good

21 is a LOT of starters you know. Even compared with Melee.

"The number of regular characters is impressive on its own"

EDIT: Put simply, if there was only 1 secret character in the entire game, Iwata would have said the EXACT same thing.

i hope impressive in nintendo terms means over 50 characters. That would be sweet!

If the 35 character roster is true I would not consider that impressive

First of all to all the people reading too much into this, it is likely translated from Japanese, so don't overanalyze words like "Regular". Secondly, do note that most of these quotes came from Iwata, and not Sakurai. Last, this can mean just about anything... Iwata could consider 35 characters as an impressive lineup, or maybe there are more. No way to know until the game comes out, but regardless, it does set the bar pretty high.

How do you know what "impressive" is to them. To some people 35 is impressive, to some 100 is impressive; this is really no kind of barometer as of to where the roster will end up.

35 = impressive, as long as the unconfirmed spaces don't turn out to be crap disappointments.

R.O.B. = wtf are they smoking, get that crap out of here

Yeah, 35 characters is pretty good, but not really impressive... and if you include such useless characters like ROB it's a really big disappointment if he's taking the place of maybe Ridley.

35 is really impressive but.......

Mortal Kombat Armageddon for the PS2 and Xbox had 62 characters and Wii version had 63...THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!!!

Still for Smash.....35 will do it for me. =D

Edit: Take a look at the Dojo roster.....too good:)

If the roster was 24 again and the game was good, I would call that impressive.
The game itself is impressive, everyone knows that, but if you call 24 characters an impressive number... well, Melee had 25. You got one less character? That would be a REALLY big letdown. I think nobody would be impressed.

"The number of regular characters is impressive on its own" is an extremely subjective statement, and can be any number.

This doesn't prove or disprove anything other than the fact that some people are way too desperate to believe the roster, even though the game comes out in 2 days.

2 days! Can we just wait instead of going "HANG ON, Krystal might still be in!!!"

Melee had 25 characters, but you have to remember, six of them were simply existing characters with new models, and one didn't even have new voice clips. That means we only had 19. 19 to 35 is more impressive, even with some returning but overhauled characters. Also take into account we get most of the new characters at the start, perhaps as opposed to the end. Thinking this way, the possibility of the 35 roster is not as awful as it sounds, and will seem more of a impressive one, at least in count.

Your post doesn't make sense since 22 characters would be less than melee's roster... not very impressive.
Starters :p

Melee has 14 Starters... 21 is an impressive amount of starters... he possibly means that the majority of characters in the game by far are starters, because amounts of secrets in Melee was near the amount of starters, so if it was the same in Brawl, we would get 42 characters :p (meaning of life O_O)

Actually, I would be impressed, since thats more characters than Melee with completely unique movesets rather than clones.

I think people tend to forget that we already have 23 - 24 characters with utterly unique movesets. No clones. Thats already more than Melee.

The starting roster of Brawl matches closely with the entire roster of Melee. Even more so when you take out all the clones.

Who knows? Maybe there's a really high number, like 40+. Or maybe Iwata thinks 35 is impressive. Remember, if this leaked rsoter is true, we have more new characters than Melee did, and few or none are clones.

You're **** right it is. It is alot not only compared to Melee but compared to many fightings games in general. In fact I don't know a single game that gives you 21 (23 if you count ZSS ad Sheik) characters to start off with.

Looks like we're starting to have clone topics cropping up.

Iwata is trying to sell stuff. He's naturally going to praise a hotly coveted game due out very soon. He'd say the roster was great irregardless of if he even knew what was on it.

I think we'll have about 40 characters in brawl.

Although I had a dream last night and I was watching a video of sakurai and he said there were 60 characters in brawl.:dizzy:

I hope I'm psychic.......but I'm probably not :p

If the game had only the characters from the Dojo, it is still impressive to me.
It's okay, Sakurai's not going to hunt you down if you say there's something wrong about the roster. If if you're been sincere, it sounds like your words are forced...

60 is definately a pipe dream, especially with the insane number of ATs we're getting.
