After 1 1/2 years, Sakurai can suddenly upgrade his site. A little too much free time? if so, that must mean he has completed Brawl by now and he has it ready to release on his command. Why? lets look at why hes should be ready by now and why he should release now.

1. Halo 3 - Now, i know Brawl will still be purchased by millions, but still at least 900,000 less if he doesn't release before brawl. Because Halo 3 and Brawl will be console sellers. But it depends on which one gets out first. Halo 3 is coming out september 25th, so sakurai better be ready to release before then. Plus Wii would be bought more (if thats even possible...).

2.Meeting with MGS staff member. "felt complete". If you are getting that from game designer, then you know it must be. He commented that if he released now he'd sell millions. And yes i know this has been posted atleast 100 times.

3. People are getting angry its taking this long - Alright, look at Melee. came out no more then a year after Smash bros for N64 did. Now look at Brawl, it has taken over a year and a half. Its extremely amazing that melee took less than a year, and back then games took longer to make. now, since october 2005, Brawl is still "under contruction", as Sakurai has stated. My question is why? you had a trailer ready early 2006.

anyway, with all this freetime Sakurai must be ready to release it..... post comments please

1. Two different audiances, this argument never made sense to me. If you like brawl, your going to buy it, period. Halo 3 won't stop you if you were going to buy it from the start, just because it is available before Brawl.

2. Guess it's the stage of fine tuning and adding the little stuff to polish it off then?

3. Yeah, agreed.

I doubt Nintendo Cares about Halo 3... Nintendo isn't really in the Console Wars.

I think they have the majority portion of the game down. They are doing their touch ups and additions. But I think majority of their time is going into the online system.

1. before after halo shouldnt make too much of a difference... "MOM CAN I GET BRAWL?!"

"NO! I JUST BOUGHT U THAT ONE GREEN DUDE GAME!"
"BUT MOOOOM!"

well, I guess it kinda does make a difference.

2. I'd rather them polish it a bit more, and add chars who are destined to be in, not cut chars cus of "push for time" like how Sigurd was cut out from the origina lSmash 64

3. when it comes out, no one would be angry anymore, and we would all be happy, and sakrai will be freaking rich.

1. It's called a Summer job.
2. Agreed, and I didn't know about that with Sigurd.
3. He'll make Bill Gates looks poor.

Methinks you're taking this all a bit too far. It might be getting closer to being finished, but there's all the touch-ups, polish, and necessary stuff every game should have. I'd be disappointed if they just launched it now if they had other things in mind to add in.

I hope they keep it as long as possible. The more time they keep it, the more time they test it. The more time they test it, the more balanced it will be.

Keep it for another year if you have to. I want a perfect game.

It's not two different audiances, I know people that are interested in Brawl and Halo (because their friends always talk about them). And they don't have a Wii or a a 360 yet, he says depending on which game comes out first will be the one he buys.

That's more of a special situation. What I mean by audiances is, they're two very different games. One is a FPS, the other a..um side view fighter thing. Some like both, so they would buy both. Halo is aiming for FPS fanatics, Smash aiming for it's own..brand..of game..yeah.

Do we really have time to ponder such questions, when Link has just grabbed a Smash Ball?

Joking aside, the Western holiday periods are always beleaguered with the smexiest games of the year, and Nintendo knows that they are not battling Sony or Microsoft anymore... Halo 3 is just one contender.

Regarding Kojima's comment on Brawl - what he saw and played (lucky *******) may just have been a decent gameplay construction; there could still be content to add. When he said that it felt complete he may have refered to how it felt, not how much content was put on the disc.

Regarding the time spent in development - If what you say is true then we should be glad. The jump between Melee and Brawl is smaller than between 64 and Melee, and the extra development time means less of a chance that we will feel something was missing when the **** thing is finished. It also means that Brawl will hit all territories under Q4, considering it should be done by now.

In every good project, there are always three stages, with an approximate time scheduling. 40% goes into planning. How are you going to do things, how are things going to look like, how does it work? Then you have 20% which goes into implementing everything, in this case programming the game, modeling, the concrete stuff. Finally, 40% of the time goes into fine-tuning, debugging and testplaying.

You sure about those percentages? I would have thought actually making the game (implementing takes abit), I could definantly be wrong though..

Lol,that was good.

But I think that the game is very near completetion considering that Sakurai said that he would start updating his site when the game is near completion.

Sakurai use to give us one small update per week for a while, but now he gives us daily weekday updates. It's not easy to mannage game development while updating a site.I'm thinking that he has more free time for updates because of the level of completion on the game.

He did, did he? That's good. But here in Europe we English-speakers (I include Scandinavia, the Baltics et al.) will have to wait for people who still suck at English.

Regarding Sakurai's time constraints I can't see how much time the updates will take, but I guess he wouldn't spare any extraneous effort if he wasn't sure the project was on the home stretch.

Gary, those percentages are interesting.

Those are always estimated and average, and often reflect that of a well-organised project.

That's actually pretty interesting... I guess it is an indication of a certain level of completion.

As far as I'm concerned, they could spend 60% of the time fine-tuning. No more idiotic design flaws, no more idiot savant CPUs...
I only want perfection, is that so much to ask?
( *scratches head* )

But, wait. Nintendo doesn't participate in the console wars? How so? Were they beaten and have no chance of catching up, or what?

This game definitely isn't complete. Not at all. Even if Sakurai/Sora had completed every character, every moveset, every stage, every mode, all the items, trophies/prizes, and online play, there would still be a lot to do. Games that don't receive enough polish, not matter how good, always seem to be missing something. So, what I'm saying is that, regardless of how complete the project may be, there's always room for more polish.

Like what Fawriel said, fine-tuning is the key to making SSBB as good as it can be.

Nintendo has stated themselves that they don't see themselves competing with Microsoft and Sony because Wii is such a different system. Or maybe he meant that Nintendo is ****** so hard in the wars that it's "NO CONTEST!!11"

That wasn't just any game designer. That was Hideo freaking Kojima. If he says it could sell millions now, everybody and their mom is gonna buy it when it comes out in Q4.

Honestly? I wouldn't mind waiting 'til the end of the year if the online system was perfect, if they added more costumes, levels, etc.

Yeah, I'd say the gameplay is the least of their worries. Online play takes a TON of testing and debugging. Especially if they want to get it right. I'm alright with waiting, if it's for that.

imo they can take as much time as they want on the game. The more time they work on it means the better the game is going to be. Plus, i want my online experience to be as bug free as possible.

I really don't know if releasing Brawl after Halo 3 will affect Brawl's sales. I mean it IS Halo 3. It will be mostly likely the highest seller for this generation and will make Brawl's sales look like a joke, no matter when it's released.

2.Meeting with MGS staff member. "felt complete". If you are getting that from game designer, then you know it must be. He commented that if he released now he'd sell millions. And yes i know this has been posted atleast 100 times.
This one has me thinking too. But then again he could have played a beta version, which usually tend to feel complete. They probably still needed to add some more things.

3. People are getting angry its taking this long - Alright, look at Melee. came out no more then a year after Smash bros for N64 did. Now look at Brawl, it has taken over a year and a half. Actually, Melee came about 2 years after the N64 Smash.

SSB64 - April 26, 1999
SSBM - December 3, 2001

I once read they both got rushed to be released in their time, but I don't know if that's true. I'm okay Brawl's taking long. I just want it to be good once it comes out and make it worth the wait.

Yeah, I'd definitely wait a while more for bug free online, just imagine if this time was being used for a ranking system? =O

It's ridiculous to think that Sakurai has already completed the game and is just hyping us up and waiting for an ideal time to release it. I don't care what you say. Everybody who wants Brawl WILL GET Brawl within the time the Wii is out. The difference between releasing it now and releasing it 3 months from now is irrelevent.

Thus, Brawl is not yet ready to be released.

SSB64 - released April 1999 (January in Japan)
SSBM - released December 2001 (November in Japan)
SSBB - released TBA 2007

I think you need to redo your math...

And he had a couple trailers in 2006 and followed them up by asking "What other characters do you want to see in Brawl?"

Visiting from above.
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Of course it's not complete. Give me a break. Also, S64 was released in 1999, and Melee on December 3rd, 2001. About two years.

Of course the game isn't finished. I'm telling you, do not expect it before November. You'll just be getting your hopes up for nothing. If it releases before then, great, but it won't.
