So we were attending the Penny Arcade Expo when news had hit of the catastrophe that was wreaking havoc in Japan and while we had heard the stories and seen some footage, it wasn't until we all got home to NYC and immersed ourselves in the media reports did we truly understand just what was occurring in Japan. Videos of cars, houses and tankers being tossed around like toys and reports of so many people missing. We knew that we had to join the rest of world in aiding the relief efforts in this time of crisis for Japan.
While we have no program in place to directly help those in need in Japan, we decided that we would support an organization that did. S.O.S. Gamers has pledged to raise funds for donation to "Save The Children". Save The Children is a not for profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all children in the world are given the chance to attain the right to survival, protection, development and participation. We believe strongly in their mission and have chosen to support them as best we can.
S.O.S. Gamers will be attending the Nintendo 3DS Launch Party that is scheduled to occur at the New York City Union Square Best Buy. We will be conducting our charity giveaway, in where we will be collecting donations for contribution to Save The Children. Each $5.00 donation will enter donors in our charity giveaway where we will be giving away a Nintendo 3DS on launch night. Additionally, we are also working with Isaiah TriForce Johnson, who has issued The TriForce Tetris DS Charity Challenge. TriForce is putting up his 2008 Twin Galaxies Tetris DS record of 1,202,000 points (Standard Marathon, Level 20). Each $1.00 donation gives a player a chance at the challenge. The person who beats the record or comes closest to doing so by 7pm Saturday evening will be the winner of a Nintendo 3DS as well. All funds collected during our efforts will be donated directly to Save The Children to help them in their mission.
