The players are about to freeze and then melt.

Russia will have a lot to do to get ready but Qatar can reach 50 degrees Celsius in the summer. No way that will produce entertaining football. Forgetting all the politics, cultural issues, transport, venues and all that, Qatar just doesn't have a footballing climate. It just doesn't make sense.

''Everyone who can leaves Qatar for the summer.'' LOL.

Can't wait for some dust storms at half time.

England bid for the 2018 games. The US bid for the 2022 games. Football lost.

Yea I was disappointed by Fifa's choices. Australia was bidding was well, and it would've helped a lot to develop the football community here, same with USA.

Qatar's going to be hell. Brazil should be decent at least lol.

Fifa is corrupt as ****. They don't have to pay taxes, they don't do **** and they actually throw their own demands on table for a country to host a cup, completely on their own costs.

Fifa = greedy old men who don't give a flying ****. I really want the Fifa to just disappear.

Russia's problem can be taken care of with stadium heating. Also it's places like Siberia that are freezing, the big cities aren't cold in like, you know, summertime.

Anyway, you'd be surprised about Qatar, most of these arab countries have pretty advanced stadiums and facilities due to rich oil tycoons etc etc. As for the fact thay they're arab/muslim OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG yeah nobody really gives a **** about that, it's football.

The only players who can't take the heat are the English. World Cup 02 had some blazing hot days and it was still awesome.

I was about to say this, but then Teran got here first.

All I can say now is that I wish that the US had gotten to host the cup in 2022 so that way I could go.

Wish the U.S had it for 2022, but what can we do?! Anyway, I'm greatly looking forward to World Cup 2014! I'm gonna save up SO much money and go to Brazil for that month!

Yeah, FIFA is not gonna give the US a hosting spot for a really long time. Would love to go if they had it here .-.

I just feel like no matter what we do...we'll never get the world cup here. Granted it was hosted here a long time ago, but still. Even if we ever place top 3 at FIFA, it would be a big middle finger to the world, saying "Hey look, we don't even care abotu this sport and we still own you guys!".

One day, I'll go to a world cup event...one day.

Yeah considering USA got it in 94, it'll be a while before it comes round again and they get to host it.

If course at some point in the quite distant future, it'll happen again, but we'll all be grizzled and old LOL.

Plus the fact that USA isn't really a big footballing nation so there's also not much of an extra incentive for them to get it. They do, however, have lots of fantastic stadiums.

Why isn't the world cup every year? It seems like there's enough hype to keep a crowd coming back, and soccer's a bit different from other sports in that it's so low scoring that luck plays a larger part in the outcome. A single second-long defensive lapse can cost a team the tourney, so I feel like international teams should get to play each-other more often to be able to meaningfully compare them.

International teams have friendlies throughout the year. Besides there are other international tournaments.

More internationals would fatigue players and cause rifts with their clubs (there are already issues).

Besides, one a year is probably too much to organist and prepare.

Russia looks like a good choice to me. Plenty of well-sized perfectly usable stadiums and massive domestic interest in football as well as very GOOD climatic conditions [western russia + summer = moderate temperatures] make it pretty much the best choice for a first-timer.

As for Qatar - regardless of the positive aspects of the choice I can't help but think that it was a highly political decision. Asia is definitely over-represented within the FIFA. Looking at Asia's accomplishments during world cups I don't see why they are stronger represented than Africa and especially South America. FIFA intentionally caters for Asia probably to gain their trust and their money, which is where their bad reputation is coming from. Franz Beckenbauer himself often claimed that Asia should get an additional spot for a world cup attendant [nevermind the fact, that the 5th best teams of Africa and South America are better by a lot], which defies all logic.

Gonna see how that world cup turns out but either way I think weather johns will be inevitable. Japan/South Korea might've had a hot day here and there but I don't think it'll be on the same level as Qatar. I'll also wonder what the schedule will be like for players who played in the Champions League. Some people might be seriously out of shape under these conditions.

Whatever. I'm a lot more exited about the European Championship in 2012 anyway. At least we'll going to see good football and not just empty hype.
