Rules and Ethics?

I think that we should have a stickied thread that clarifies some rules for battling on wifi.

Like for example if one person disconnects randomly, the other person is not at fault for anything so the game is either a tie or a loss for the one who disconnects (even if he/she were winning). The person who didn't disconnect should be at no fault whatsoever. I think that this makes sense.

Besides the other rules like no OHKO, sleep clause, etc, moral values should be important. I've had so many battles where the other person insisted they won they match even if they were the ones who disconnected while they were winning. Should having more pokemon be determined in anything? If so, wouldn't everyone just ensure they have more pokemon before they disconnect?

I wonder why you came up with this, lulz.

I say the rules are fairly basic, and should be sticked. But for Disconnecting, I say that if the person purposely Disconnects, it's an automatic win for you. If its an Error from WiFi, then the ONE WITH THE MOST POKEMON SURVIVING WINS, no exceptions. If you have the same amount, then it's a tie. That's how my Gym League does it.

I agree to an extent. That would clear up any and all confusion and/or disputes on wifi between the players. I mean while playing Mario Kart on wifi they gain a automatic loss for disconnecting. A piece of me thinks it won't matter in the long run if disconnecting doesn't add to your losses on wifi. Im not sure on this since I have yet to have a battle on my diamond version on wifi.

Well I battled a guy from smogon before you and the same thing happened. He was leading by 1 poke, disconnected, and insisted I go back on and give him the win. He also threatened to put me on the 'Wifi blacklist'. (of course this is more extreme than ours haha)

You can't really tell if a person disconnects on purpose can you? I think that an error because of the wifi is still the person's fault because they didn't ensure that it was working perfectly fine. Although nothing is perfect, people shouldn't be playing on wifi with just 1 green bar. I guess different people just have different views.

If someone acts all bad and such, and the WiFi messes up, its pretty obvious it was Intentional.

i agree. i mean, who the hell is going to enter a battle with a low power level or weak bar meter? people just use those things as excuses for a cheap win

:yoshi: There's no use in making provisions for disconnects. They happen too often and for too many reasons~

It's best off that you just have a backup team and, if disconnected, you re-challenge that person with a different team. Both sides switching teams, of course.

Also, counting a win based strictly upon the number of remaining Pokémon at the time of disconnection is pretty severe and wholly unfair, I think. I've come back from what's looked like 4-0 stomp-outs before to snagging a win in a very delicate sweep. Not saying that always happens or that it's even likely, but to declare a win in such a situation where the community, as a whole, regards luck and skill as basic factors of the game seems a little strange.

But that could just be me.

Also, why do people ban OHKO moves? If someone uses something like Fissure, it's basically a free turn for you to do whatever you want, since you have an enormous chance of them missing. o_0 Like, OHKO moves are unfair more for the attacker than the chance of an opponent getting "unlucky." Has anyone here honestly been swept by Choice Scarf Horn Drill Rapidash?

OHKOs are banned? That's news to me...

But it'd probably be banned because of moves like Mind Reader and Pokemon like Machamp

OHKO moves are banned in most competitive play. Same as Double Team.

Also, often times it's difficult to know who disconnected. How do you know it wasn't your connection that spazed out?

:yoshi: Well, Machamp doesn't get Fissure anymore, I don't think.

You can also switch out of Mind Reader. Unless it's like Mean Look + Mind Reader, but then you deserve to get Sheer Colded anyway, so let's be real. >_>

I can see why people ban evasion, as it is TERRIBLY homosexual, but I dunno, I think banning OHKO moves are just people being pansies. Reminds me of back when people thought Fox up throw up air was broken until they decided to start using DI. <_<

Anyway, yeah, I'm done. Just thought I'd put in my two cents.

OHKO's are wall hate. And walls can use all the help they can get in this gen.

In any case, these clauses are just there because it makes the metagame more fun to play. Nobody likes playing against a fully double teamed wall, because it isn't fun. Basically it alters the metagame to reduce extremes in the probability in battling pokemon.

My Wifi USB adapter gives me nightmares... Occasionally, on battle revolution, when I'm battling online, it just cut my connection...

What if the connection brokes for a user with one poke against 4-5 , which is at full healt and has belly drummed (like belly drum last resort snorlax) and is under trick room with no ghosts in the opposing team, the number of pokes left shouldnt matter too much in my oppinion, try to do at least one second battle..
