Why do you care, stalker? Don't make me sic the po
Okay, I'm a bit of a noob (yeah, like 10 posts) and do not even own a GC. However, I frequently play with a friend who always plays as Roy (Sometimes Link). He thinks I am incredibly nooby to read any guides, saying that I should find things out for my self, which is somewhat difficult without a GC. I have tried to teach him advanced techs, but he refuses to learn any of these (I shouldn't talk-- I can barely even short hop consistently). So he has no idea how to do any advanced techs. Keep that in mind.

However, he- let's call him bob-- always edgeguards me. He charges up his blazer and as soon as I hit that ledge, BANG, AAAAAAHHHHH!, giant column of fire, I'm dead. I NEED ADVICE!!!! In fact I need advice on how to beat Roy period. By the way, I do not want any arguements over which one is better in this thread. I just need some help.

Thank you!!!

Go and read. I'm assuming you use Marth? You have more range and priority than him, plus your recovery is better. If you're having a hard time recovering, try DIing better, stalling with Forward B, and than sweet spot the ledge so you don't eat the Fire. If he's still managing to get you, learn to tech the ledge, it'll save you a lot and you're friend will be confused.

Overall, this is a really easy matchup. Roy is a semi-fast faller and has a lot of stun when he's hit by attacks, so combo him with Utilts, fairs, and finish with Fsmash. Wash, rince, repeat.

Does he use Dtilt? Its really good against Marth. Just keep him at least as far as the tip of your sword. If he gets inside that range grab him. Grab Dthrow or Fthrow to Fsmash works at low percents. YOu can edgeguard him in the same manner or just counter it a lot of the time. Outrange him with F tilt.

I'd say get practice in and learn ATs but you don't have a GC at home so this is impossible.

edgeguard him back. Your edgeguarding is more devastating then his, remember you're marth ;). f-smash, d-tilts, your own neutral-b, bairs from the ledge, dairs (if you live in america, its a meteor in pal) if you find the oppurtunity and can pull them off etc...

^ what he said, plus keep in mind that you can CC a lot of Roy's attacks.
yup his arials have like zero knockback.

Thanks guys, I'll keep that in mind........Are there any AT's you would recomend as very important for a Marth? I do practice when I have a chance (I know about most AT's, but want to know which are the most important). Thank you all very much.
Learn to SHFFL, SH Double Fair, how to edge guard with Bair, Ken Combo, dash dancing, wavedashing, jump canceled grabs... etc? If you want to get good at this game you should try and learn as much as possible. Check out the Melee Discussion Board and check out the thread about AT there.

Learn to vary the length of your wavedash too. It's nice. Ledgeteching is always awesome, although you'll probably want to do the kind without the wall jump.

Learn to ledgehop nairs as they'll be your staple ledge attack but also be able to ledgehop fairs uairs bairs and dairs at command.

Reverse Dolphin Slash is nice to master too. You should know where off the ledge you can use it etc. Mostly, learn to master aerial combos. Know how laggy each aerial is and what its hitbox is like. You should also know how far out you can go and still make it back.

One of the most important things, I feel, for any character, is to find that character's rhythm. There's a certain tempo that every character has in their attacks and such. If you learn to use that, you'll avoid a lot of unnecessary button presses that would otherwise throw off your timing.
