There's really no reason to add a character from a dormant series that isn't even retro.

Ridley makes sense because Metroid is a major series, as does K.Rool for Donkey Kong. Series that produce interest will be the ones who get characters in Smash.

Metroid is still active, DK is still active. F-Zero is...dead, dormant, whatever you want to call it. If Nintendo doesn't have plans, then we won't even see an F-Zero game for what could be years.

Again, my opinion is that F-Zero should not get another character. Captain Falcon is fine on his own.

Saying one of the most classic Nintendo series ever shouldn't get a proper amount of representatives and it's second most important character because it hasn't gotten a game in a while is such a horses *** argument. Really.

It seems we just like to put ourselves in charge of what "should" happen.
you're right I say we do need this classic nintendo series to get a newcomer

Metroid got another character. Donkey Kong got Diddy, Star Fox got Falco AND Wolf. Why does F-Zero still just have Captain Falcon?
All of those series you just mentioned are more important to Nintendo as a whole than F-Zero. Despite that, I am inclined to agree that F-Zero should at least get one more character one of these days. Still I'd much rather see Metroid get it's third(or second depending on your logic)and possibly DK getting it's third and forth. Star Fox is fine as it is. But I won't complain if we get one more from that series either, provided the character that was chosen doesn't copy Fox too heavily.

Outside of Metroid and DK, I'm far more excited to see newer series myself. Like Punch-Out!! and Golden Sun.

If we are talking Pokemon again, let me just say that Brawl + Mewtwo would be the likeliest choice. But I'm okay with Zoroark being added too.

It's based off Ben, but I personally don't find it creepy at all.
The creepy hobo who lived behind Nintendo Headquarters that was chosen to be the artist for Majora's Mask. He based it off a kid he thought slit the throats and ate the internal organs of the children he thought he had.
Creepypasta and... I don't even know what the **** to say to the second one. See a psychologist? :p

Really though, I just thought that it looked a bit weird, so I wondered if there was any basis for it looking so odd when compared to Link.

Really.

It seems we just like to put ourselves in charge of what "should" happen. And that's we practically blindfolded ourselves while Sakurai prepped up the Rosalina trailer. Because WE think it SHOULD be Bowser Jr.
A lot of what you say here is subjective. What's proper to you may not be proper to somebody else, which is clearly different from my idea of what is proper.

The thing with the idea of what "should" happen, is that it's very subjective. Not everybody agrees on everything. I honestly believe that other franchises present more unique characters than F-Zero does, especially if we're comparing Goroh to several other candidates. I just don't think he stacks up at all.

I agree here, Zamus is way more independent than these guys.

Took the words outta my mouth. If we didn't get Goroh in Brawl when GX was three years old, we certainly won't get him when it's 11 years old and the latest game.

The hell are you talking about? What's more important than the original 10 - EarthBound.
Mario, DK, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Star Fox, Pokémon, Tetris, Kid Icarus, and Super Smash Bros are all arguably more important than F-Zero.
In my eyes. Although F-Zero comes in somewhere after that.

But the reasons given to to just instantly dismiss a topic/character is pretty ignorant.

It's okay to disagree. But, to be like "Oh, yeah well. I'd rather have my 3rd Metroid character and F-Zero ain't recent . I would prefer to have other franchise instead therefore they are more likely."

Although I don't consider ZSS a separate character, she takes the development time of a normal character slot.
Kid Icarus was huge back in NES times, as Pit showed up next to Mario, Link, and Samus quite a bit.
And nobody can argue that Tetris is not one of if not the most important puzzle game franchise in history.

Speaking of underepped characters, would you guys rather see more newcomers from series not represented yet in smash bros. (retro or modern games) or newcomers from series already in (another mario, zelda, pokemon, etc character)?
A balance of the two sounds nice. Several existing series are definitely deserving of more representation, and I'd certainly be irritated if established series were denied that to make way for heaps of new series characters. But, a roster lacking in new series would be pretty bland, for obvious reasons. I'd say it oughtta be roughly half and half.

Tetris is one of the most important Nintendo games ever dude it is what gave the Gameboy the amazing start it did (while Pokemon finished it with class)
also Tetris for the gameboy is one of the highest selling games of all time :drflip:

Star Fox is just barely. And it has 3.
Starfox was still continuing between Melee and Brawl with Adventures, Assault and Command, and Starfox 64 was still a big hit at the time of Melee's release. And even while it's not very active now, Starfox has had a game between Brawl and SSB4, while F-Zero has STILL not had a game since 2003, which will soon be 11 years. The Cap is fine on his own.

Why are we talking about F-Zero again aside from what they can do for a new stage?

Oh, so F-Zero isn't recent! All impact the franchise has made since 1990 is meaningless.

Obviously Nintendo doesn't care!

Not to mention Sakurai cares more about F-Zero then Nintendo does.

I can't decide if I want F-Zero to have Samurai Goroh or Black Shadow.
I would love Goroh to focus on using his weight to battle as if he really was his Stingray, he doesn't necessarily need to focus completely on using his Katana.
But then again I would absolutely enjoy seeing Black Shadow become dark Captain Falcon with Ganondorf finally becoming his own original character.

It's a tough choice for sure.

can you see her slot? I can't

You're not giving her enough credit. She isn't a palette swap or alternate costume, she's a second character.

Tetris is much more iconic than F-Zero, so that is inarguable. Super Smash Bros. is a TITAN for Nintendo, possibly being the game that turns the tables for the Wii U.

Kid Icarus is questionable. The reason it's important is that Uprising revived it and did very well.

I agree with Louie G.'s point though. I think you're overstating the importance of a series. If it were as important as you're making it out to be, I would think it would get more titles between then and now.

My reasons may not be good enough to instantly dismiss it, but they are valid. Series that are going nowhere really shouldn't get a character when we're talking about a game that is getting less newcomers, and is looking for uniqueness above all else.

Okay, don't take these two subjects and compare them.

Smash Bros. has character counts based on importance/franchise size.

Nintendo Land has one minigame for every main series they have.

You know there's a The Mysterious Murasame Castle attraction too, right?

Nothing against F-Zero, but the main reason F-Zero has a minigame in Nintendo Land is because there are no second party franchises in the game. Trust me, if it came down to Pokemon and F-Zero, Pokemon would be chosen. But hey, maybe we'll get one soon since the director who makes Mario Kart wants to make an F-Zero.

Because Murasame Castle is a classic Nintendo franchise. Did you miss my point entirely???
