i think i figured out how little kids work:

1. fail in some sort of obvious fashion
2. people who don't suck call them out on failure
3. kids take it personally and feel the need to needle, err, defend themselves with a ****ty excuse
4. ****ty excuse gets destroyed, they take it even more personally and say something emo to garner pity / attention like "wow, i guess i just suck" / "i guess i'll go kill myself now"

hint: just admit you're wrong and work on not failing next time.
