Which do you use, and why? What are some differences between the two?

I currently use Gecko OS, but Riivolution seems promising. Especially with the ability to replace SFX! However, without a less-complex way of replacing sound effects, I don't see the point of editing all my files to be Riivo-compatible. Is Riivolution really better than Gecko OS?

In short: Yes

In long: Riivolution allows you to have multiple patches. Going to a tournament with your Wii? You can turn off stage and character hacks.
If you wanted to, you could set up the XML to give you an option for every character and stage. On the other end, you can just set it up so you can load any of the major brawl mods.

I use both Riivolution and Gecko OS. They're both good in my opinion.

I use Riivolution for brawl mods, Japanese SFX, and movie files. For Gecko OS I use it for alternate stage loaders, and wi-fi in general.

Riivolution just limits a few stuff though. The wi-fi texture hack from flamegoop doesn't work on it. :/ Or maybe I just put it on a wrong directory... although it's supposed to be in the menu/wifi folder.

It's not that hard to set up your files to make the work with Riivolution. The simplest way IMO is to just download the Brawl+ pack that includes Riivolution, make a backup of your current private folder and codeset, unpack all the Brawl+ stuff onto the SD card, restore your private folder and replace the Brawl+ codeset with your own.

Anyways, I use Gecko sometimes and Riivolution others. When I need to do snapshots I'll do Gecko and when I'm not I'll do Riivolution.

Riivolution doesn't support USB loaders. That ends the argument for me. If it did, I would gladly switch over. I have a disc, so that's not the problem. The problem is that with the disc, my Wii crashes a lot, so the best option is to just use the USB loader.

I use gecko OS for my main personal code set since it includes many stages and uses the ASL code.
I use Riivolution for Brawl- and for a codeset I use with broken PSA's.
Smash Eater 2 as a movie in Brawl is cool too.

IIRC it doesn't support USB Loaders because they don't support piracy, and USB Loading is a form of piracy if you don't own the game. For cases like yours it's not piracy since you bought the game, but they still don't know that.
