if you quit classic mode, do you keep the custom moves?

Nope, if you quit you will lose everything you've gathered during that run.

Do you keep all items you get if you lose and don't continue? If so then it might be faster to just suicide during master hand so you don't have to fight him and sit through the ending credits every time.

Each time you lose a match, you will lose a certain amount of items, trophies, coins, and score from what you've gathered that run. The number seems to increase with difficulty and how close you are to the end of the game (for example, I would lose around 6 items and 5 trophies for losing against Master/Crazy Hand on 9.0 difficulty, though this varies.) The items you lose are usually the first ones you obtained.. However I have lost new custom moves that I gathered later on this way -_- If you lose a match and quit, you will keep whatever remains after the item/trophy loss penalty. If you lose around 3 match you will probably lose everything you've gathered that run.

Anyway, this is barely an exploit and I'm sure it won't be patched. You still need to grind like crazy for custom moves, even if you get multiple red wrenches EVERY time.
