Hopefully we'll still be able to do it still when the US version is released.

So does this have a name? Techniques like this always get a fan name in these types of situations. Do we name it after him? Like the NinjaLeak Maneuver or something silly like that?
Either way I'm so happy to see an answer to the part of the game I was most dreading.

This had better not be patched -_-

There's no glitch here. The home button as well as the software is working as intended, because the home button is supposed to suspend software, and software is supposed to be suspended while in the home menu.

It's not going to be patched.

It's called pause buffering. It's an extremely common speedrun strat.

Didn't people say the same thing about Wavedashing?

This is beautiful. The struggle is over before it even begins in the States.

Unfortunately it doesn't just unlock Custom Moves - it can also be equipment, Mii stuff like hats etc. Which means there is still a random factor to this, sometimes you get a lot and sometimes barely nothing.

I've been trying this all day and tbh it still feels like it's 50/50 between this new method and the old Smash Run method.

And btw, quickest way for Fox is to do Trophy Rush. Just spam blaster lol.

Do you keep all items you get if you lose and don't continue? If so then it might be faster to just suicide during master hand so you don't have to fight him and sit through the ending credits every time.

Please stop.

Still, getting 3 at a time is pretty good.

I forgot who it was, but one of the streamers (maybe Zipzo or NinjaLink) was talking about how you lose more items the further you are in Classic Mode. But if you lose right on match 2, it's early enough that you don't lose anything from match 1. So you can suicide after 1 match to get 3 items at a time.

While this will be a blessing for most people, don't get your hopes up :/ This can easily be patched by disabling the ability to press a for a second or so after re-entering the game. It still would be very nice for everyone that is interested in custom moves though

Yeah, this isn't a bug and will not be patched. Try this with any 3DS game, going back to the game after being on the home menu will pause it for a brief moment before running like normal.

Why does everyone think it's inconceivable this will get patched? It's not a bug, no, but it's very clearly an exploit, and it's possible for devs to disable the home menu in specific parts of the game.

They'll probably just ignore it but "They won't patch/remove it because I like it!" didn't do much for wavedashing's chances.

OH MY GOD!!! For you japan version players who are having a hard time getting custom moves, watch this.

So, a guy found out a really easy way to get custom moves in SSB3DS
Basically, there's a roulette that starts in classic mode once you choose the character you fight... If you get the
Red X 3, you (may) get some custom moves. So, if you press the home button while you're on the roulette, the game pauses, so if you see the Red X 3 you can just hold A and it will unpause the game and automatically choose the next thing on the roulette, take a look.

Not a glitch, all 3DS games can do this unless they're loading or in wireless connections, basically.

Also, there have been at least two threads made about this already.

There was another thread not too long ago about this.

By the way in an annotation, he said this can't be patched, but I think it can... When you press the home button it could just reset the roulette, shouldn't be a hard patch right?

Sakurai probably hates us all right now.
(P.S We really need a whole section for Sakurai emotes)

So. Let's say that you play on Classic mode on the intensity that gives you 3 custom moves and you get that every stage, and that you play 5 stages in classic mode. There are a total of 306 custom moves to unlock. And there are repeats as well. Let's say custom moves are completely random(Which they are not). 306/15= 20.4. But there are repeats. so, we must multiply it times 3 to account for the average of repeats you will get. So, on average, you will need to play classic mode only 60 times to unlock all of the custom moves. You only need to play classic mode with every character plus 9 additional times to unlock all of the custom moves solely in classic mode.

Problem is that you don't get 3 custom moves though. You can get 3 of custom moves, custom equipment and mii equipment.

I've been doing Classic on intensity of 7 testing this and I get maybe 3-5 custom moves per classic runthrough. A few more on 9.0 but it takes longer due to being harder.

As it stands I still feel like it's 50/50 between Smash Run and this new method on which is faster. Just my opinion though! I'd love for someone to find an even quicker way to get custom moves, whether it being this new classic exploit or something else.

Thank goodness. There's 376 (47 non-Miilutena characters • 4 special moves • 2 variations on each) locked custom moves in the game, and it's possible to get duplicates for some reason, so this will make things a lot less of a nightmare.

Please add your custom item farming data here!

It takes me about 12-15 minutes to complete a single player run (with 12-15 custom items).
Smash Run takes 6:30 minutes to get 6-8 items.

So it seems that Smash Run is easier to get custom items, but it doesn't give you as much money.

Trophy Rush is still the best (I can get 4 custom icons per 2 minutes now).
