Reverse Up+B is amazing

Since any player worth their salt in tech skill can tech the wall if they are caught in a Falcon or Gannon UP B, I've become fond of using reverse Up+B if I'm stuck under the stage.

I find this extremely useful against my friend Dyse's space animals. He's drop down for a shine or spike, and most foxes that are not perfect at shine spiking get grabbed by the Up B.

Instead of letting him tech the wall, I started facing the other way to send him away from the stage. I managed to send him far enough for a very sexy edge hog, which I again reverse Up B'd to make it back (most falcon/gannon players should know you can grab when you are turned around at the apex) just in case he would make it.

Let me know if anyone finds this little tactic helpful.

reverse up-b's are generally useful for recovery as well (when you're under the stage, of course). common edgeguard moves such as spacies' dsmash won't hit you if the space animal isn't close enough to the ledge, and you reverse up-b. this is especially useful against falco; if he's standing a bit past the ledge (in dsmash range), reverse up-b will dodge the dsmash.

however, if the falco is standing right on top of the ledge, it's best not to reverse up-b, since you won't be able to tech his dair.

another good example would be fox's who tend to edgeguard using the shine. if a fox is standing on the ledge (so that the falling-off-ledge animation is being played; as in when your character is standing right on top of the ledge), and a falcon normally up-b's into the ledge (trying to sweetspot it) the fox can easily shine which will actually hit falcon in the hand. ;_; that's good enough for a kill, though, if the fox follows up with an edgeguard of course. if you reverse up-b however, the shine will be dodged. unfortunately if you reverse up-b you're prone to fox's dsmash is he's standing in the aforementioned position.. :(

this is generally a useful technique, especially when you get caught under stages like jungle japes which does happen. as mana said, it's about as useful falcon's up-b is going to get. :p

and lets not forget who the up-b is probably most useful against - doc and mario.

correct me if im wrong, but doing a reversed up-b will pretty much guarantee you get the ledge. if they cape you, they just turn you round to face towards the stage, and if they dont, you can grab it anyway.

I'm surprised the wasn't mentioned earlier.

This is really great, I stopped playing as captain falcon often because my friend would cape everyone of my recoveries, but now I can play as him again.

YES!

This is true, but my new discovery is that is can be a viable offensive tactic off the stage, especially against shine spikes.

I've used this very thing against Foxes before. It's funny how you give a character such a good offstage killing move (the shine), and it just makes the players all the more happy to come into your "kill zone".

iirc, when your reverse upB is caped at a certain point, you'll gain a bit of height.

mhm, forgot all about that; but yeah it's especially useful to hug the stage and reverse up-b vs them. if they cape, it's useless; if they use other moves such as dsmash you can tech it. :)

yes, you do gain a bit of height although it isn't really useful since your goal is to grab the ledge regardless.

I didn't. And I've been trying that a bit during matches, but I couldn't do it, so I didn't know it was possible. I guess I should practice more.

Reverse up-B out of shield is good too. Don't overlook it.
