Reliance on shielding?

Hmm. So it's my first post, as a Ness main.. in the Kirby forum. XD

Anyway, I have a quick question. How often do you find yourself using the shield in matches? My friend wants me to teach her a playstyle that's less reliant on shielding, because it'd be more efficient for her to try to cancel out attacks with A or B moves. (I don't think she can grow a habit for shielding.) And my not being very experienced using Kirby is certainly not helpful. ^^;;

If anyone could give me a few tips, I'd be really grateful. Thanks! (And yeah, I know this is a really weird topic XD;)

Let's just say that I've been playing Brawl since it came out, but when I went back and tried Melee again, I found myself barely using the shield at all.

It's just an unfortunate aspect of the game that Brawl relies heavily on defensive play >_>

Do I really on shielding? Sometimes I have to...and sometimes it's your best option. If someone attacks you with a multi-hit move (like Kirby's dash attack) you shield the whole thing and then punish, there is really no better option. Same thing with laggier moves.

If your friend plays Kirby and wants to rely less on shielding, tell her to stay in the air as much as possible. :/

Ok, to teach your friend a playstyle, it would help us to help you if we knew who she mains...

Anyways, shielding is essential for me in every match just because of the options it provides for Kirby.
The biggest one of these that I use is shield grabbing, just because it follows up with many options/combos.

^This.
Although sheilding is sort of an essential skill for this game in general, and shield grabs can often times lead into throw combos.

Thanks for the tips. =) Everything up there was pretty helpful, and I've gotten enough feedback to get a slight start now. I guess I should try convincing her that shielding is useful again, otherwise we'll be sticking with getting her aerials to connect. Lol, those shieldgrabs are looking better and better.

Well, I guess I should do some testing myself now. XD

Aerial game. Stay in the air, I mean you are ****ing kirby.

Also, don't go for grab as much. in close combat do jab > rapid jab thing.

Also, don't get hit.
