Cross Movement Youth Ministries is holding its second ever SSBM Tournament. After hosting one torunoment, and participating at a few, we at CMYm have a bit more experience in the field, and as a result we present to you a bigger and better torunoment. Before I jump into details, I want to make a few Honorable mentions.

Honorable Mentions

To Super Sleet Bro- you came Dreessed as Link with a positive attitude. You brought a TV and cube, heck, you even went on stage and told a joke or 2 (lol) But over all, you've left a lasting Impression on CMYM we won't soon forget.

To Mexican-" You win a starbucks gift card!" (lol inside joke) You won the tournoment with relative ease and you pushed us at CMYM to train harder. Thanks for stopping by even though you had a place to go the next day.

Tournament Info/rules

NO ENTRY FEE: Now I know most of you are thinking no entry fee = lame prize, and based on the prize at our last tournoment, it was petty much true. But this time around we have a bit more funding to go around so prizes will be a bit more high tier.

PRIZES
Winner-$70
Runner up-$30
Raffle prizes- MP3 player, Movie tickets, A DS lite and other Misc prizes

The prizes are pretty good considering your not putting anything in.

Default
We have 32 spots open right now. If you plan on coming and you want to reserve a spot you can. But if you fail to show up or come too late, your spot will be surrendered to another.
If we get more walkins and spots are full your name will be put on a waiting list.

If you want 2 or more players can sign up as 1. That way more people get to play

UPDATE 9/20: More then expected players plan on showing up to the tourney. It's not for sure if they will all show up or not but but to accomidate the large number of expected players, the limit of 32 will be removed. Odd man outs will be dealt with when the time comes.

FIRST ROUND NO ELIMINATIONS
After the first round winners and losers will be divided into 2 Divisions. The winner of each division will face each other in the final round.

Game Rules
4 Stock
5-7 Minutes
NO ITEMS
Single Match
Legal stages- Final Destination, Battlefield, Pokemon Stadium, Fountain of Dreams, Dreamland, Yoshi story

Other Info

There will be 3 TVs and 1 Projector 4 cubes all together
It would be wise of you to bring your own controller, but if for some reason you don't, there will be some provided.
Though it might not be needed, you can bring an extra TV and cubee if you wish. Just be sure to also bring an extention courd with multiple plug ins.
FREE FOOD!
Like last time there will be an event with the tournoment. But the event is centered on the tournoment.
Tournoment starts before the event, and finals will take place after the event.
Raffle prizes will be givin out during the event.
After Finals, there will be open challenges, so if you wanna call someone out, or have a few team matchs, that option will be open to you then.

Strange ... I don't see any tournaments in my calendar for the 21/22/23.

I'll wait to see what other tournaments come up in that area before I make plans to head up there.

--GCII

EDIT: There's a madden qualifier on the 23rd in San Diego. Still, no melee tourneys.

Is the event mandatory? And/or will players be able to play friendlies during it?

This is pretty much going to decide your attendance. People will be going to play Smash, after all.

Also, is the tournament single or double elimination?

THe whole event is centered and themed on the tournoment and Melee it self. I'm not going to say it's manditory that you stay, but it is HIGHLY recommended that you do. I mean I'm sure you'll get a lot more out of it then you think.

As for smashing during the event....there will most likely be none...for it's policy

I'm Pushing for double elimination but I'm not sure there will be enough time to do so. Maybe if we get more game stations, we can do it, but for the time being it will most likely be single eliminations

This sounds like a lot of fun, it's about time there was a tournament in Stockton. Hopefully I'll be able to come along to this, I don't think I have anything going on the 21st... Reserve a spot for me!

I'll be in Sacramento the day before for a Rock Band tourney, so I should be able to come to this.

I just want to make sure that it is indeed double elimination. The first post doesn't specifically say, rather it says that the tournament will be divided into two divisions.

...which begs me to wonder what program you will be using to run the tournament (tio, foosballheaven, poolplay, etc.)

So seeing as how there's an extra station and only 32 spots, it might be doable to have best of 3 sets instead of 1 match... I understand that this event is focused around Recharge and we'll need time for that. But you can always fit loser's finals and semi's into the time slot after the event. 1 match can get pretty crazy... aka Mango beating M2K. Just throwing out some ideas :)

rel I know best of 2 is ideal and I'd love to have it so but time is an issue especially since we have a 32 people cap. But as it has come to my ear that we are gonna have a lot more people then expected. well thenagain...hmmm

Sorry for not updating guys

Since there is a CHANCE that a lot more people will sign up then expect I'm pushing toward making it open to all, with NO CAP. We can accomidate to oddballs when needed. The first round will be no elimination, that way everyone is warmed up and ready for the real thing
This way everyone gets a chance to play and play more then once

BUT

If we get the right amount of people, perhaps we could a 32 best of 2 game

We'll see tommorow for sure. the numbers will tell all

Any more questions comments, concerns?

I'm still confused as to how this is going to be sorted out. You mention "no eliminations" and "best of 2."

So this will be a double-elimination, first to win TWO rounds, or is it ... you know I'm not even going to guess. Please explain clearer.

But I will have both my computers on hand, which means I'll have TIO, which should help streamline the process.

--GCII

EDIT: I'm asking "best of 2" because there is no such thing. You can't have a best of (even number).

I ment best of 3 sorry anyway

When I say first round no Eliminations, I mean that the first round if you win or lose, YOUR STILL IN. Second round an up however you are vulerable to defeat.

And If the numbers allow we'll have a best of 3 set up with a cap of 32

Does that make sense?

Well Zeio, what the Game and others might be getting at is double elimination works by the process that if you lose twice you're out of the tournament. From the way you described it, winners of the first round go into one bracket and losers into another allowing for everyone to at least get one match. Yes, that makes sense.

However... The problem is that you make it sound like those who make it into the winners bracket will still get eliminated with one loss after the first round. A little unfair considering the losers are allowed two losses.

TIO solves this problem by automatically creating a double-elimination bracket where everyone is allowed a fairer chance by necessitating two losses for every player. The best thing would be to have double elimination TIO style instead of what you may be suggesting.

A lot of players with tournament experience will be there and would most likely gladly help you out with running the thing if you need it. I apologize if it sounds like I'm stepping on your toes. It's your tournament and you can run it any way you like, and I understand the time constraints.

The way I see it, nothing is set in stone until the tourney is on its feet. Just letting you know I'm here to help. :) Good luck figuring things out and I'll see you there.

Sorry guys, but i can't go this time. I have to work. I tried to get out of it, but its a no go. But don't worry, you'll have your hands full with my brother Meep and my friends going. Try not to make it too easy for them to win. lol, jk

BTW, which one of you guys is Zeio? Trenton? Leo? One of the 8 dozen peoples whose name i don't know?

I guess I'll be the first to post about the tournament.

The whole thing started out kinda slow, but as it went on, it got progressively better and better. Shout outs to all the guys holding the tournament. Thanks for being gracious hosts. Big-ups to the few people I got to meet... TySamurai, Trenton, meeps...

meeps, if only I didn't goof at the end of our match, but you got me at the heat of the moment and that's what mattered. Almost had you on the last stock. I don't go to many tournaments, so I'll just settle with 3rd. :) Hope to see you in another tournament sometime in the future.

Fun times had by all. Great atmosphere over all. I wish I got to meet more of you guys. I'll see you all around somewhere else I guess!
