For those of you that play D&D or any d20 game, a natural 20 occurs when you roll a value of 20 on a 20 sided die, a 1 in 20 occurrence. It is almost always a cause for celebration, because no matter the situation, a natural 20 on any check is always at least a marginal success--in some D&D circles, a natural 20 is an overwhelming success.

Three weeks ago, I missed class for a week due to events beyond my control. The week after I missed class, I had two exams, Calculus and Physics, coming, and I had missed a weeks worth of lessons. I went into both of those exams and scored 92% on Calc, and 100% on Physics. Yay for natural 20s on my Knowledge(Physics) and Knowledge(Math) skill checks!

That said, any of you ever experience a lucky break like that?

I have no idea what that post said. I know the words in them, but they just didn't make sense.

Same here. I've tried different decoders on the internet, but none of them worked.

Maybe it has something to do with the Illuminati 0.o

I totally, understood, what he had to say because D&D has perfect 20s, and, and the exams after being out of lessons for two weeks, he used the 20s in, his math and physics, tests.

...I can't even duplicate it...

Yes, the post does in fact make sense.

NERD HIGH FIVE

For a Comp Sci class I have, I had one of those tests where the Prof is like "Here are a bunch of practice questions, only a few will actually be on the test" I only went over a few, but they were the only ones on the test. W00t, 100%.

I understood both paragraphs. I just don't understand what one has to do with the other.

Is this topic about D&D, or is it about high school tests? I don't know. I doubt the topic creator knows.

Perhaps TheFifthMan didn't explain things as well as he could have...

In D&D (and indeed most D20 games) a 20 sided die is used to determine many things that involve an element of chance. For instance, if you're swinging a sword at a monster, you can use your accuracy and the monster's defense each influence the outcome. But it is ultimately up to the luck of the die to determine if it just so happens to hit that time.

One of the rules in D&D is that of the "Natural 20". It means simply that if you're trying to do something (such as hitting a monster or climbing a 100 naked man pyrimid to escape from an underground jail... don't ask...) if you roll a 20, it will be successful.

But the lore of the "Natural 20" extends further than just hitting monsters. The phrase is used in Nerdy circles to represent something that went perfectly right, sheerly by dumb luck.

It also just so happens that the type of person to use this phrase is likely to be taking lots of difficult school tests, and the phrase is often used in reference to one.
