Well I found a nice vid of a match my friend posted on youtube so I thought I'd share it. It's an old vid, but I want to get your thoughts on it anyway. I've learned to use the Bair to turn around since then and I'm not as side B happy as in the vid anymore.

I don't even know what I was trying to do when I just turned around and started jabbing. I think I was supposed to jump and DI a Nair backwards or something.

Oh man. I totally felt like I was watching myself play, even down to the colour. <_<

I can't honestly say too many bad things about your Marth. The only critique I could really give in the video is that you used your Shield Breaker at a few places when another aerial or forward smash could've been more effective.

You've got a great grip on how Marth plays. And your L-cancelling and wavedashing is great. And you can short hop double fair really well. I might reccomend you try and dashdance more during the actual fight, as it could add to your mindgames. I also didn't really see if you jump cancelled your grabs, but if you don't, then it's a good habit to get into. As Marth's jump cancelled grab owns.

I would've liked to see some more of your edgegame. But Ares sent you too far to recover most of the time . I might reccomend that you wavedash into an edgehog, it's alot faster than a reverse dancing blade in the air, and might have helped you get some ledgehopped bairs or dairs when he was trying to recover.

But honestly, there's not really any places where you're need HUGE improvement. Just some fine tuning here and there is all you need :chuckle:

And I liked your random backflip waveland at 1:05 :p

Montreal. PM me if you're on the island! I need op
As Kada said already, you obviously understand how Marth's game works, and you have the technical skill to execute it. A good Marth in general, but you overused your neutralB and sideB (I know your post said you don't sideB so much anymore, which is a good thing). While watching the video, I could feel when you had momentum in the match, and then you'd use your neutralB to attack, and suddenly that feeling of momentum just vanished right away.

A perfect example of this is 1:47-1:53. You landed a sweetspotted nair, which for Marth leads into anything he **** well pleases, and you start to gain momentum, but then you decide to chase with neutralB. You hit his shield, and your momentum dies on the spot. There's nothing more you can do because of the lag time, and you then take a fatal knee. Had you chased with a fair, a grab or another nair, you would've kept a smooth momentum going and probably could've kept comboing.

Otherwise, Kata is right: Nothing major is wrong with your game, it's all fine tuning. What you could do is learn to pivot in matches, that's very helpful for Marth. Also, try more dashdance tricks, such as dashdancing through your opponent while he's shielding and trying to get him to whiff a grab. Then you could say...pivot into an fsmash?

People make a big deal out of pivoting. Use it if it works for you. Don't force it into your game.

But yeah, your movement is slow. Work on being able to move faster out of landing an l-cancel. You have a lot of unnecessary attacks that lead into you getting punished as well. You don't seem to know what to do against a falcon at low percents either, what with those repeated uthrows to... momentary lightshield? Anyway, it just seems like you need a lot of experience.

Thanks for the tips. Hope to get better. Can you guys give me a few tips for mindgames and maybe some advice for fighting captain falcon in general? I still don't really know what I should do after I get a successful grab or if I get grabbed by him. And what would be the best way to punish him when he jumps out of his shield and tries to knee me. I know if I were to use a fair instead of a neutral B I'd have more time to react so I want to know what to do with that extra time.

I normally like to be on the offense. Waiting for him to come to me just isn't my style. What would you guys suggest to do when I grab captain falcon or get grabbed by captain falcon? What should I do after I l-cancel a fair on his shield? Is there enough time to get a grab in or am I better off dashing out of his range?

Your Marth doesn't seem to have anything big you can focus on, in my opinion. You seemed to get a little sloppy at the end and wanted to go for the kill with all those FSmashes, but that's all that I noticed that wasn't mentioned.

On those times when you tried to follow UThrow with UTilt, you could've actually just grabbed him again. Also, on Falcon and others, FAir -> UAir in the same shorthop leads to a free grab if you don't sweetspot UAir or an UTilt if you do sweetspot it and they go high enough.
