Ok so recently my crewmate has recorded some of our matches together and I lose everyone(very good samus player). So I decided to post the video(the only one with falco he placed up) to see what I needed to improve on. I know that I should use alot of falco's advanced techniques but right not im having a bit of trouble with most of them whihc is why I try and practice as much as possible. Anyway, the vids are pretty bad quality but I hope you guys can bare with me and watch and critique me on aspects that i may want to improve on. Thanks for watching, and all critisim is welcome.(warning: was under some serious frustration at the time so I will not be playing to the best of my ability.)

i'd say dont leave urself vulnurable a lot, u seemed to use side b when it wasnt necessary, and also u used left/right smash quite a bit. I'd say just work on a little wding, (helps for mindgames) and also work on ur short hop laser i couldnt tell REAL good but it looked like u werent timing it right so it would actually hit the other player. 5.5/10

Time to change from a smash noob!!! TO A SMASH ummm....KNOW HOW TO PLAY ADVANCED WELL GUY!!! XD. No seriously im going to try really freaking hard to get better. Like I said before, its the advance stuff that kills me. And once I can get that down I should be a better smasher in general no matter what char I play.

Work on your SHL game, first off. Samus has a hard time with lasers and it closes many options for her. This includes RSHLing and FJ lasers. Those Side-B's seemed strange, but don't make it a habit if you're purposely doing it as it serves no other purpose besides recovery. Secondly, work on your approach; early in the video, I saw you just run up and attack. Again, SHLing would've been a good alternate option (I personally like to WD between my lasers to mix up my approach). Thirdly, I wouldn't suggest Falco's dash attack against, well, enemies with low percents in general. Replace dash attacks with SHFFLed Nairs. Finally: Shines. Even if Samus has odd physics, shine > uair can get some quick percent in.

Yes, I didn't miss your "frustration" comment. Your recovery was just plain bad in the video so I suppose it's related. The best advice I can offer besides the above:

Read the stickies and AlphaZealot's sticky in Melee Discussion (?), and practice SHFFLing. It's more important than WDing by far IMO. inb4 the pros come and criticize my criticism.

just practice the advanced tech if thats wat u wanna learn...
and you only need to fight level 1s to practice...

things to practice to help you in particular...
practice empty short hoppin, and fast fall them... do this untill you feel comfortable and consistent with it..
then try putting the dair in (non l cancelled) this will feel slower but youll feel out the fast fall and where the arial should be... once you feel comfy with that try putting in the l cancel and short hopping the moment you hit the ground... so you get the feel of the "end of lag" timing, once you feel comfy l canceling shffld dairs try doin them into shines, once your comfy with that try shffled dair shines but jc them into multiple arial shines...

that should get the meat and potatoes of falcos game into effect for you...

from the look of your vids you can shl but not properly....
its hard to say where to place the shl without being there to show you but ill try to explain....
there are two basic ways i know of...
approaching... moving towards the enemy shl, ing, but dont just shl for the hell of it get close with them, you mite have to mindgame it in to get close... but the thing your after here is the stun.. go into training put it into slow mo if you have to.... get way up into your oppanants grill do a fast falled shl and as soon as you hit the ground dtilt.... if you did it rite the combo thingy on the side should say two...
but yeah just use the stun to combo cause most noobs think that the laser itself is important... its not its the lack of lag time (cept for landing lag) that makes this move important...

and of course the other way is retreating... but dont be too generic and also just cause your retreating doesnt meen that you cant attack...

its hard to explain properly how to use them (i could show you tho)
anyhoo just practice and get your speed up and adv techs crackin but you have to feel comfy with it...
sorry for the long reply but i hope it helps in some way

oh and wats the frustration comment? (id ont have a sound card atm)
if it is something that can be repeated lol

Not in the video, lol. The warning right before the link. Although it's easy to spot what advice can be offered, some things just looked off, which is why I mentioned his recovery. The Phantasm was missing the ledge, but he said he's not playing his best.

You shouldn't face lvl 9's. They do ridiculous things like power block every SHL or grab you out of your illusion. Basically you're facing unrealistic reflexes. Rather, face a lvl 3 (They DI) so that you can practice your lasers and combos easier.

just work on ur advanced techs like shhfling and shl. Dont f-smash unless your going to kill him with it. Never u-smash. And shl a lot more and work on approaching with lasers and lower them.

Ok so due to all this adivce that i've obtained i've implemented SHLing SHFFLing and wave landing into my falco as well as less f-smashes unless placed into a combo or kill, and more uses of the SHFFL'ed Dair. Of course im still the timing wrong sometimes on my SHl's but im not worried since i've been practicing everytime I get a chance to. I wont plan on working on my wavedash until Im certant that I have SHling down. Anyway thanks for the advice guys, and I'll probably place some more video's up later to show my improvements. Once again, if you still wish to give me advice, pm me and i'll be more than willing to listen. Thanks guys, you've made a better falco player out of me because of this topic.

Inside my own mind :)
Your not the best....But your not the worst. Falco is fast right? So use that to your adventage! You need to learn how to douge and roll my friend. And you need to work on getting back on the stage. But Falco isent the best jumper so that could take work. :ohwell: But yeah the biggest thing I think is rolling. I love rolling. And watch other Falco players (youtube) It helped me (ALOT) so I think it will also do you good to :)

Anyway good luck and have fun :)
