I took off the rubber thing of the left thumbstick of my controller. Does that count as cosmetic? Because i hate that rubber feeling on my thumb.

now i know removing the L or R button spring definitely is not legal, but I know some pros that use this... is it too much of a **** move to call them out on it? what are you supposed to do, make them play with a different controller?

My three year old cousin took mine off and lost it, but I actually like it better
it doesnt seem to give an advantage so it's probably legal

no...call them out and DQ their azz

it's a **** move of them to use it in the first place

I'm pretty sure removing the spring is okay by the SBR ruleset.

I'd have to double check though.

EDIT:
It doesn't say.

Its legal to remove the springs. I took both of mine out and told as many people as possible and no one cared. I hate that clicking feeling of new springs >_<

I've never been called out on it and never have seen anyone disqualified on it. I THINK that its legal.

just cause some ppl have gotten away with it and some dont care doesn't mean its not legal. technically it changes the performance of the controller which is mentioned at being banned.

Technically, removing the rubber shortens the distance between your thumb and the point of rotation so you can move the stick faster when moving an equal distance with your thumb compared to normal...

Shortening the distance of movement needed? Sounds a lot like shortening the distance to reach the part of the L/R buttons that actually do something (in Brawl) by removing the spring, which you can also accomplish without it by just resting your finger down on the analog part of the button while playing since this functionality of the controller is not even read or used at all by the game anyway. Personally, I find having no resistance from the spring when it's held in that position to be kind of weird and annoying myself and would rather hold it ontop of the digital click part of the button with the spring still in place.

As far as Brawl is concerned where it sees use not many people actually care, and if they do they probably haven't tried it for themselves very much. These kinds of things aren't really banned in other communities because they do not provide new functions to the controller like a turbo or macro would, but instead change existing ones to fit one's preferences.

You can honestly get more variance in controller performance directly from the manufacturer and through use of the controller than with this, the effect of it can be easily replicated without any change to the controller itself by leaving the analog already pushed in when playing, and you can also remap the use of the button to something else entirely if you wanted as well.

I'm pretty sure R/L button modded controllers are unallowed in tournament play...It's pretty logical if you ask me. Every player should have to deal with the give in the buttons. It's how the controller comes.
