QA to Falling Attacks

I figured that this needed an entirely new thread, since it can be very beneficial to Pikachu's edge game.

First of all, to QA > Grab the ledge you should be a short distance away from the ledge. Then, QA diagonally downward, towards the ledge. You should instantly grab the ledge.

Well, I was testing this on Final Destination, and I was able to do a variety of things. Imagine that you're in the position to QA to the edge, and instead of QA > Grab the ledge, you should press A/B (to cancel the Grab) and do an attack. It's much easier if you use the C-stick if you want to execute an aerial other than nair.

1) QA > Quick Start-up FF Thundershock
2) QA > Normal Start-up & Slower-Falling Thundershock
3) QA > Thundershock pointing towards the stage
4) QA > Thundershock pointing away from the stage

5) QA > Falling (but hovering down, slightly) D-air
6) QA > FF D-air pointing away from the stage

7) QA > FF B-air pointing away from the stage

8) QA > FF Nair pointing away from the stage
9) QA > Slow-falling Nair pointing towards the stage (would be hitting someone hanging onto the edge)

10) QA > Slow-falling Fair pointing towards the stage (if you were hanging on to the edge, Pika would be Fairing towards you and hitting you)
11) QA > FF Fair pointing away from the stage

12) QA > Falling Skull Bash pointing towards the stage (good for recovering to the other side of the stage :])

13) QA > Slow-Falling U-air (easier with the C-stick)

Is this the thing that's number 2 on your list of 27 techniques for pika?

I've never tried this before, since I tend to SD a lot, but seeing how many options I have, I might try this out. This seems very useful for pika's edgeguarding game as well as his mindgame potential. It gives your opponent one more reason to fear that annoying QA sound!

Just to make sure, do you QA diagonally-down towards the edge and push A (or B) to cancel grabbing and edge and to perform the aerial (or special)? Also, you don't have to be a specific distance from the edge, right?

Good work on this list. It will be very useful once I can implement this into my game.

This really is the #2 on your list, huh?
I understand your reasoning for making a separate thread for this.
Thing is, I practiced these techniques a while ago and found them too difficult to pull off to be useful. Is it just me?

Plus, I find these tricks rather situational. But I do think QA to ledge > Nair or QA to ledge > Thunder are useful.

Sure, but I've only seen Anther perform QA to ledge > Nair & QA to ledge > Thunder. I'd like to see what he thinks of the other QA to falling techniques. I'll give the others some more practice though.

I did some testing and you have to be about one pikaroll (the distance pika rolls) from the edge. QA to aerial (nair) seems really useful for hitting people who try to sweetspot the ledge on their recovery. Nair (and dair) and decent knockback and could set up your opponent to be edgeguarded again. It could be mixed up with regular QA onto the ledge and pika's other edgeguarding options to keep your opponent guessing on how you are going to edgeguard them.

I'm going to start practicing this (is there a name for it? I don't want to start the II debate all over again...) and try to get consistant with it. I just love the ways pika can use QA: from approaching, to retreating, to showing off, to moving, to ledgehogging, to recovering, and now to edgeguarding!

Holding the control stick in the direction opposite the ledge will also cancel the grab, minus the attack. Jumping immediately after and positioning yourself right can allow you to QA back onto the stage and if you want, make it a loop with QAC. Its mostly useful for inducing seizures.

If you do the inputs to QA onto the ledge, but your opponent is already on the ledge, do you enter fall special, or do you just fall (like this technique)?
