Public Apology

I'm making this thread to apologise for the alternate account I made. I didn't actually know making an alternate account was unallowed, but it was wrong of me nonethelss.

For those who are curious, the point of the account wasn't to troll anyone, or have an extra person agree with this account, I actually planned on deleting this one once the alternate one got admitted into the DH. I made the new account because I was unhappy with what I'd done here in the DH. I was unhappy that I'd revealed all my personal views, and that I'd spent the majority of my time here arguing only for positions I held personally. I wanted to make a new account where people didn't know who I was, where I'd post for both sides of an argument, even in threads I have a strong position on (the PG Abortion thread for example).

So I just wanted to let people know I didn't have any devious intentions, I have too much respect for this palce for something like that. So to everyone who has been angered by my actions, I sincerely apologise.

It's in the global rules. And I do think there is a need to apologize, not just for breaking the global rules (which you're supposed to read), but also for trying to trick all of us. But I appreciate that he at least manned-up and apologized.

I didn't know if everyone knew or not, but had I known that everyone knew, then yeah I would have apologised on my own accord.

Lyth, if you're gonna say I'm starting more drama, you'd be pretty far from the truth.

Notwithstanding that I discussed with Sucum about the issue, you also failed in fact that you failed to read my previous comments.

I said very early on that I felt that Dre. was smart trolling, and he should probably have his DH status revoked as a result. Many--like what you're doing right now--said I was spewing out hot air. Guess who was right?

Seeing that I asked the same question two weeks ago on the Social thread and it was answered by Sucum, I don't see how I am stepping out of my boundaries here. Unless you have some magical mod powers I didn't know about. =p

I stand by my previous statement. If you have a problem with another user, take it to Forum Support, and let the staff handle it. Putting stuff like this out in the open just adds fuel to the fire. Why stir up more drama than necessary? Do you honestly think that the admins don't have ways of dealing with irresponsible users?

I have read pretty much everything in the DH, because I'm good at being a lurker like that. If you think I've missed your comments, then that's understandable. I know you posted about it in the social thread.

LOL at this. Dre. for the record, you agreed to not make an alternate account when you made your current account. Furthermore, you used the second account to dupe a closed room, so it's their call what to do with you/your access, along with defending your current account (which is more hilarious than anything else). In short, consider this your final warning with anything regarding this. Any future accounts will be banned along with your current account.

We had no real intention to make this public as to avoid embarrassing you, but since you did, I'll make the final warning public.

Now, I don't really think this needs to be open, so I'll close it. Sucumbio, GS, or EE, if you disagree, feel free to reopen, but I see a lot more harshness coming out of that.

Give me a second to remove my palm from my face, guys.

It was recommended that Dre. make this public apology -- by me -- for a simple reason. Dre. explained that he was displeased with himself, with how he made his introduction to the Debate Hall. How he chose to debate, and how he chose to conduct himself in the Debate Hall overall.

I was certainly not a fan of some of Dre's more inflammatory stances, or the way he chose to express them. But that's the whole **** point -- neither was Dre. His objective with the Bookworm account was to let "Dre." fade into the waves like a strange dream, not to "troll" the Debate Hall. He simply wanted to wipe the slate clean and conduct himself better in the future as a Debater, without the association of how he behaved as Dre. hanging over his head. Everything he said made perfect sense; there's no reason not to believe him in that regard.

I decided on this course of action -- keeping Bookworm banned, a sincere apology from Dre. to you guys, and not stripping his status -- for a very simple reason. I felt that a fresh start shouldn't be needed. Obviously Dre. is just as displeased with his earlier conduct in the Hall as most of you were. With that common ground and some maturity on the part of the Hall, it should have been easy enough for him to apologize, explain his feelings, and for everyone to hug it out and move on.

He shouldn't need to start over. In a forum that is supposed to be full of objective intellectuals, it should be perfectly possible for someone to make reparations for earlier transgressions and move on to be judged only by their concurrent actions. I admire that Dre. wanted to reinvent himself as a better Debater, and I want to believe his desire can be achieved without him forced to try to convince everyone that he's an entirely different person. That shouldn't be necessary.

I'm going to reopen this thread, because I want Dre. to see some class from us. If anyone wants to continue making a problem out of this -- yes, I'm looking at you, kazoo -- they can take it to PMs or Forum Support. Turning this topic into a use of town square stocks is going to get you infractions, period. But I really expect better from the Debate Hall than for it to come to that.

P.S. - Not once in any of his posts in this thread does Dre. admit to any kind of "smart trolling".

Well, I'm glad you cleared that up.

I can take the high road and leave well enough alone. If he is truly repentant for his actions, far be it from me to judge him on that.

Just wanted to clarify -- I am not calling you honorable. But you could have just ignored EE's request and left the DH, so what you did here is a lot better than that.
