AudioTechnica ATH-M50s tend to be one of the highest recommendations for headphones in that price range. $125 on
Newegg presently. I don't own a pair, but I may get one sometime soon, and I've had good experiences trying them out in the past.
If you want a cheaper set of cans, you can go for Sennheiser HD280 Pros, which are decent closed-backs that now sell for the fairly impressive price of $70. They're the quality you'd expect of a $100-150 pair of headphones, but hey're cheap nowadays because they've been around so long. I have a pair myself, and they've served me very well. But if you have glasses, be wary of it - they clamp fairly hard, so can get uncomfortable after long sessions of wearing them.
If you want open backs and are willing to put down some extra cash, I cannot recommend the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros enough. They'll run you about $150 at least, but they are fantastic headphones that are incredibly comfortable. Great soundstage, good bass without it overwhelming anything or being unbalanced like many sets designed more for hip hop and electronic music, while still maintaining good listening quality for those genres.
