Problem with Dair spiking

I'm trying to get the hang of spiking with Dair, but many times when I try, I end up killing myself. How do y'all usually go about this? I've found that C-Sticking it is safer so that I don't start falling faster (as opposed to holding Down+A). Then, though, I can't get down to the enemy fast enough to pull it off. Tips?

Forgive me, I'm not the best-kept on all of the smash terms. What exactly do you mean by "footstool?"

I speak of the flutterkick-type move. I realize that it was never a true spike to begin with (not exactly like his Fair, that is), but I definitely JUST fluttered luigi to death off the stage. :p

Just another day.
I know what you are talking about. Footstool is when your character is directly above your opponent's and you jump off their head. When this happens, the character that got footstooled will be stunned and will be sent further downwards (which will screw most character's recoveries).

Hm, that's interesting. I guess you have to jump right when your character is on their head...
Maybe that's what's doing it, then.

Regardless, I keep killing myself. :-/

If you're killing yourself, then you're probably not footstooling. The dair still can be used as a semi spiking move when you hit someone with the very bottom of it, though I wouldn't recommend trying it. dair to footstool is much easier, you simply have to fastfall to their head as soon as the attack is over.

dair meteor smashing is just to difficult/risky try to stik to fair when it comes to that subject. but if not I do recomend the yoshinators plan. I have tried it and it does work

I never use dair as my spike. I use the footstool jump and the meteor smash.

Also note I just got my friend code up. So if any wants to Yoshi vs. Yoshi, hit me up. I don't know where else to put this, so don't complain.

There are still characters that can recover from the Dair>Footstool, but it's a better choice against most characters at lower % than Fair spike. Since it's not %-dependent, it basically screws everyone up regardless.

Against lighter characters at 50% or more with decent vertical recovery, just Fair in my opinion.

I've recently realized that an inverted Bair that pummels them against the wall makes an excellent gimping tool because it causes them to get repeatedly slammed into the wall doing a pseudo-spike.
