Just wondering cause i wanted to get better at brawl and since the MK ban im guessing now would be a good as time as any. So i was wondering whats good ways to practice

I have joined tournaments before i generally do pretty meh towards the bottom half of the list. i know i could definitely do better then that but one thing i dont like about going to tournaments is the $. if i dont even have a chance of winning its kinda a waste to people care if you were to go to a tournament and just do friendlies? i was thinking maybe i could at least bring a wii or something to compensate.

also any other good ways to practice? i talked to some ppls at the last tournament i went to and they said they practiced online (which seams totally insane to me IMO) but is it really all that bad/easy to get into matches?

You could always go to smashfests. They're either free or like 1-2 dollars because they're held at someone's house. It's more for practicing and just having fun than anything.

In my experience, online play promotes some pretty ****ty habits that have to be outweighed by offline practice. Personally, I have to practice in person to get better, but that may vary for you or anyone else.
