Hi, developers. Im a Dolphin user, and I greatly appreciate this creation. Project M has to be one of the best game mods ever! I have a slight suggestion though. Would it be possible for you guys to fix the portraits for the characters at the selection screen. Here is a comparison between brawl and project m, at x4 native resolution, output at 1080p. There appears to be a terrible amount of compression on your images. could this possibly be fixed?

Honestly. I don't see a major difference. I have to really look to see minor things. I don't know why you're asking to change things. I have never seen someone complain about something so minor.

Portraits were compressed so that filesize wouldn't go over the limit and cause freezing.

I guess its just my OCD, I notice things like artifacting and bad aliasing easily, also I have a monster PC, so I run it at max settings, and a portrait thats poorly compressed easily stands out.

AHHH so thatd be a no, on them being uncompressed? Oh well, atleast now I know why, so thats fine with me. Just thought I'd ask. thanks for your replys guys.

The quality was purposely reduced in order to fit much of the new content (some characters got new costumes + 2 whole new characters, all requiring portraits and icons). As posted above, there is a file size limit so this was necessary.

If they can ever break free of the 2GB limit on the hackles version, then it might change one day.

That's not the issue, the 2GB limit is completely unrelated to this. The common5.pac which holds portraits and a lot of menu icons and such has a certain filesize limit. If one were to exceed said limit, the game would crash. To prevent this, the PMBR reduced the quality many of the images in order to fit the new content.

It is not possible to remove Brawl's 2GB limit. Brawl itself can only read 2GB and lower SD cards. The edits we have with PM/Launcher allow 2GB+ SD cards but that is after you load up the Launcher / PM. That means that you have to use a 2GB or lower SD card before using the Launcher or PM.

There's a Project M HD texture pack that comes with better portraits. It's a work in progress that I believe is still based on the old 3.0, but it's good.

HEY just got around to adding this and WOW, it works magnificently!...it was bumpy setting it up, since I used a .elf geckoos and it needed the wad, but I figured it out...I do have to say some of the textures were a bit disapointing(felt like they changed TOO much from the original), but as you said it's a work in progress. I removed a few like the none symbol for an empty player slot, the name tags above the characters mini portraits, and a few other things, so Im very happy. Thanks for the link!

Aahh, that is unfortunate.

Note: anyone who uses the Homebrew Channel to load PM can use any size SD card and can therefore add a high rez CSS to their own personal game build, but because of the SD card size limit for the hackless loader method, the PMBR probably won't ever release a high rez CSS with the official build.

But that's the great thing about PM: you can tweak it yourself and really make it yours.

Yea, I honestly think its just one of those things....where the solution may not seem all that obvious, but it's really just better to custom load the textures in with dolphin. Its working great for me! maybe add the custom textures by Yami2b in your Project M downloads section along with a tutorial if more people than me have an interest in it.
