Possible new information on counter?

I'm not sure if this was widely known already, but I'd just like to mention that Counter has some sort of range beyond Marth's original Hurtbox. I found this out while countering near the spikes on Rumble Falls. (obviously, I was standing away from the spikes, and when I countered, Marth registered the spikes as a hit, even though he would have been out of range if he had not countered).

It seems as if the visual ring that forms around him becomes his hurtbox for the duration of the counter. This would explain why some moves (such as MK's or Lucario's Side Smash) seem to out range even Counter's huge range even though it would have been a whiff instead of registering a hit. The "ring" so to speak seems to extend upwards and downwards, which is why counter is likely to miss in the air. It would be interesting to use the extended range to counter Mach Tornado as it justgot into range.

I couldn't find this anywhere else, so I assume it's not widely known. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I only figured this out a couple of days ago, when I was going "wtf, MK's ftilt outranges counter?", but it only hit the counter, not when I wasn't.

I think it's a mechanic that was introduced for dash attacks and the like.

Very interesting, can't say I knew that.

I don't know how it can be put to use but it's interesting nonetheless.

Interesting...funny how we're still finding things out about Brawl more than a year after its release.

You don't wanna know how long it took to discover everything (known by now) in Mrlrr :p.

But nice find, I guess I knew it in the back of my mind, but never payed attention or didn't find it interesting enough to care. Good job!

One use I thought of for this:

In doubles, a MK or Lucario could fully charge a Side Smash to barely hit Marth, then he would counter, but the MK or Lucario would be out of range.

This could allow for some approaching techniques that involve Marth not having to worry about the after lag of Counter, because anyone hit by this would be hit really far, and Marth can recover from a completely whiffed attack easier than if the MK or Lucario had simply fired it off at an opponent. (Think double the fully charged smash)
